Boston Red Sox Name Chad Tracy 49th Manager in Club History and Retain Craig Breslow
They just punched their ticket to the postseason. Now they are locking in one of the guys who got them there, their interim manager. On Tuesday morning, the Boston Red Sox announced they have named Chad Tracy the team’s 49th manager in club history and exercised options to retain Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow.
The ball club went to social media to make their official announcement. The franchise posted,
“The Red Sox today announced that they have exercised the club’s 2029 and 2030 contract options on Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow and named Chad Tracy the team’s 49th manager in club history, agreeing to a three-year contract that will run through the 2029 season with a club option in 2030.”
Red Sox President & CEO Sam Kennedy also released a statement regarding Chad Tracy and Craig Breslow. Kennedy says,
“Craig and Chad are two exceptionally talented leaders who have earned these opportunities in very different ways. Over the last three years, we have watched Craig bring clarity, discipline, and conviction to the work of building our baseball operation. Chad was asked to step into a difficult situation with little notice, but the trust he immediately commanded at the major league level was earned through years of work across our organization. What this team has accomplished over the past several months has been historic. Results matter greatly in this business, but so do judgment, character, and the ability to bring out the best in others. Craig and Chad have demonstrated all of those qualities, and they have earned our confidence in leading us forward.”

With Chad Tracy stepping in and up as interim manager, he helped Boston achieve one of the biggest comebacks in baseball. On June 25, the team sat 14 games under .500. They became just the fourth team in MLB history to reach the postseason after falling that far below .500 in a season. But now Boston has clinched a berth in the 2026 MLB playoffs. Despite a rocky start to the season, they secured their postseason spot on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan summed things up stating, “The Boston Red Sox have removed the interim tag from manager Chad Tracy’s title and signed him to a three-year contract with a club option for 2030. Tracy took over as manager following Alex Cora’s firing when Boston was 12-17. The Red Sox are 74-55 since.”
