Tampa Bay Rays Even Up ALCS Behind Strong Performance From Freddy Peralta

The Tampa Bay Rays evened it up in the ALCS behind a strong performance from Freddy Peralta. Taking down the Cleveland Guardians, 1-3. Peralta threw an absolute MASTERPIECE to level the ALCS. Just a stellar performance from the electric arm, who’s been working to locate his peak velocity throughout the season.

Freddy Peralta was fired up after completing six shutout. Per the Rays, Freddy Peralta is the second pitcher in Rays history to throw a scoreless quality start in the ALCS or World Series, joining Scott Kazmir in 2008. But from the very beginning of the game he was on fire. His hot start led to a quick 4 strikeouts through the first 2 innings of play.

Freddy Peralta has made some visible changes to his mechanics since joining the Rays. In each of his last 8 starts dating back to the regular season, Freddy Peralta of the Tampa Bay Rays has:

Allowed 5 hits or fewer
Allowed 1 run or fewer
Had his team win the game

That’s the longest streak by any traditional starter in MLB’s modern era (reg & post). Additionally, Freddy Peralta brought the heat in Game 2, averaging a career-best 96.9 MPH fastball. He’s allowed 1 or fewer runs in 8 straight starts, posting the MLB’s lowest ERA (0.81) in that span.

Nevertheless, Tampa Bay has been known to be really good at developing and revamping pitchers. And Fastball Freddy only adds to the lore.

Freddy Peralta had led the league in wins in 2025. However, when he went to the Mets he unfortunately regressed. The Mets didn’t try to fix Peralta, instead they traded him to the Rays. Tampa Bay instantly got his confidence back and allowed him to pitch to his strengths. Now he is in the postseason absolutely dealing.

The ALCS will now head to Cleveland tied 1-1. And some history was made along the way. Jesse Rodgers who covers Major League Baseball for ESPN reveals, “The Rays even the series behind 3 unearned runs and a Freddy Peralta gem. It’s only the 7th time since earned runs became official in 1913 that a team allowed 3+ runs in a postseason game, all unearned. Final: Rays 3 Guardians 1.”

Besides dominant pitching, the Rays got the job done thanks to an error. Liam Hicks ripped a two-run single after a José Ramírez error; leading Tampa Bay to beat Cleveland 3-1 at the Trop. But a win, is a win. It doesn’t matter how it occurs. Now Cleveland and Tampa Bay will see who can get a series advantage on Thursday.
