Dodgers Dave Roberts Says Shohei Ohtani Convinced Him to Be in NLCS Game 3 Lineup
LA is down 2-0, so everything is under scrutiny. As the blue men try to nail down their lineup to right the ship. Ohtani briefly came under the microscope. However, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts says that Shohei Ohtani convinced him be in the NLCS Game 3 lineup.
In a Tuesday evening presser, Roberts revealed the reason why the Dodgers are still going to have Shohei Ohtani in their NLCS Game 3 lineup despite his 3-20 start to the postseason. His recent play is not stopping the Dodgers organization from supporting their superstar player. Dave firmly stated,
“In this moment, we’re listening to Shohei and we’re supporting the crap out of him and that’s it. He could go out there and throw out 4 hits or no hits and it doesn’t change our process and believing in him.
At some point, we feel he’s close. Hitting is hard. I felt “Is it a Freddie Freeman situation, are you too compromised to play?” The answer was no.
I know we’re better with him in the lineup. Everyone knows that. That’s not a secret.
We are playing with urgency. We threw out 3 hits yesterday, we got to play better. We got to win a game. I’m not too down on the urgency, it’s going to be good playing at a game.”

In his discussion with Dave Roberts and others, Ohtani mentioned he feels healthy enough to play and believes he’s close to figuring things out offensively. In fact, Roberts says that Shohei Ohtani had strong conviction and: “was adamant that he can help us, well enough to help us win a baseball game. That’s all I needed to hear. He feels good enough to be in there (lineup). He’s close to finding something with his swing, and I feel great about it. And so, he wants to be in there and help us win a ball game and win a championship.”
Shohei Ohtani met with Dave Roberts, Andrew Friedman and Brandon Gomes in the manager’s office on Tuesday. Thus, leading to Shohei now remaining in the lineup for Wednesday night’s game. And putting an end to the uncertainty surrounding the two-way star following another difficult stretch at the plate. Roberts wasn’t sure where Ohtani will hit in lineup: “Two to five, or two to five or six.”
