A 21-year professional career filled with hardware. Almost two decades in the National Basketball Association. Veteran wing Nicolas Batum is retiring after 18 seasons in the NBA, he announced on social media. The former first-round pick made stops with the Blazers, Hornets, Sixers and Clippers throughout his career. Nicolas Batum retired from basketball on September 21st (2026) in remembrance of his late father who passed on the same day back in 1991.
To officially announce his retirement from the game he’s loved for so long, Batum posted a single video to his social media account. In the video, he explains to his young son why he picked this specific date to say goodbye and end his career. Nicolas recollects on his past and reveals he sadly witnessed his father die during a professional basketball game on September 21, 1991.

Batum, 37, averaged 9.6 PPG on 37 3P% over 18 NBA seasons and made $208 Million in his career. He retires with full pension and medical benefits from the NBA.
