Washington Commanders Announced Jayden Daniels Will Not Be Placed on Injured Reserve
After a very trying week, some good news is springing from Washington. Their QB may return to action quicker than expected. On Friday, the Washington Commanders announced Jayden Daniels will not be placed on injured reserve.
Early this morning Adam Schefter confirmed the news regarding Daniel’s elbow injury. He stated,
“Commanders QB Jayden Daniels will not be placed on injured reserve, sources confirmed to Ian Rapaport and me. After imaging on his dislocated left elbow was evaluated and multiple specialists were consulted, the consensus is that Daniels now will be considered week-to-week. Both Daniels and the Commanders say they are aiming for him to return as soon as possible.”
Senior NFL reporter Albert Breer added to Adam’s update. Breer mentioned,
“Commanders QB Jayden Daniels traveled to New York and Los Angeles this week, and met with multiple specialists in both places, leading to his and the team’s decision to go forward with the plan to forgo surgery, and bring Daniels back in the coming weeks.
He’ll wear a brace over his left elbow, he’s week-to-week and HC Dan Quinn’s only ruled him out for the Seattle game.
The Commanders go to London to play the Colts in Week 4, and the team will have to make a decision soon on whether or not to bring Daniels with them—they actually leave Tuesday night.”
So some very positive news after a scary scene against Dallas. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow on Sunday, September 20, 2026, during the final play of the first half in a game against the Dallas Cowboys. After taking an under-center snap; Jayden landed awkwardly on his left arm while trying to brace his fall.

While not needing surgery and avoiding IR is ideal for the team; it does present some possible risks. There is no guarantee that this might not occur again down the road (but we sincerely hope not).
ESPN’s John Keim reveals, “Jayden Daniels is expected back at the facility Friday after visiting another specialist. So he’s now wrapped up with seeing the specialists. The feedback from Dr’s has been positive. But still a risk after two dislocations and the key is how best to mitigate. No surgery. No IR. A positive development though it comes with some risk. Daniels has been told by doctors there’s no guarantee the elbow won’t dislocate again. But they’ve been encouraged by the condition it’s in, even after a second occurrence.
