Three Young Quarterbacks Were Struck by Injuries Early in the 2026 NFL Season
Good quarterback play is essential to a team’s success. Nothing excites an NFL fan base more than having an up-and-coming playmaker at the quarterback position. He offers hope and the possibility of making the playoffs. However, in Week 2 of the season, three different franchises have had early fright. Three young quarterbacks were struck by injuries early in the 2026 NFL season. They are Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears, Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders and Jaxson Dart of the New York Giants. All three went down in Week 2 with what looked to be serious injuries. So, before Week 3 gets going let’s do a status check.
Caleb Williams was carted off the field with a towel over his head. However, before leaving the field he removed the towel and put up a fist to the crowd. But Williams has been receiving much criticism for his reaction to what turned out to be a minor injury. He suffered what was eventually diagnosed as a mild hamstring injury. Because he screamed and appeared to have trouble standing up people have been saying his reaction to the injury was overblown. Yet, current Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby came to his defense.
On the Tuesday edition of The Rush Podcast he defended Williams, saying, “I’ve had a hammy thing a while back, and that [injury] will freak you the [heck] out when it happens… In his head, you’d probably imagine [he’s thinking] something really bad just happened.”
Why anyone would criticize how someone else reacts to pain and injury is incomprehensible. Nevertheless, Pat McAfee posted: “It certainly seems like Caleb Williams is unlikely to start this week and next week we will see.. 2-4 weeks is generally the diagnosis for these kind of hamstring injuries” ~ @RapSheet #PMSLive
Three Young Quarterbacks Were Struck by Injuries Early in the 2026 NFL Season
The injuries were more severe for Jayden Daniels and Jaxson Dart. Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow as he went to the ground and tried to brace himself as he fell. No timetable has been set for his return as of Tuesday. But head coach Dan Quinn said Daniels is seeing a specialist today.
Jaxson Dart had an awkward collision with two Los Angeles Rams players on Monday Night Football. He was able to walk off the field under his own power but was ruled out. According to an ESPN post, Jaxson Dart is expected to have knee surgery that will lead to a full recovery but end his 2026 season. Dart suffered damage to his MCL, PCL and meniscus with the meniscus being the main issue.
Therefore, Dart will be out for the season, Williams is week-to-week and it’s unknown what Daniel’s status will be. The 2026 season is off to a rough start for some.
