New York Knicks Steal Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals

Several lead changes, injury scares and a heart-pounding pace. This matchup so far has had it all. In the end, the New York Knicks steal Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals.

Things started off pretty scary for New York. In the first quarter Jalen Brunson left the court due to apparent knee and ankle injuries. However, he came back and was brilliant. Putting his team on his back and getting the victory.

Nonetheless, despite finally kicking things into gear later on; Brunson got off to a very poor start when it came to his shooting. Actually both teams had their share of struggles. In the second quarter neither team was a definite bucket, however, at this point in the game San Antonio was winning the 3-point battle, hitting 9-of-24 from deep compared to 6-0f-20 for New York. Champagnie (15) and Dylan Harper (12) combined for 27 points for the Spurs.

Their offensive efforts allowed for San Antonio to take a lead. After leading by as many as 10, the Spurs were able to take a seven-point advantage into halftime. Being up, 55-48.

Nevertheless, the second half would not be kind to San Antonio and the Knicks would stun them and their fans. Less than five minutes since the Spurs took a 67-54 lead in the third quarter, New York tied the score. The Knicks rapidly closed a 13-point deficit to send us into the fourth quarter all tied up.

Mainly, thanks to KAT going beast mode. Towns scored 10 points in the frame, to give him 18 points on the game. He’s also grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. He singlehandedly kept the Knicks in the game, while Jalen Brunson struggled with his shot.

Furthermore, this game at times felt like was about winning ugly. The stars of this matchup continued to  struggle offensively in the second half. As Jalen Brunson put up 17 points on an inefficient 7-of-22 from the field as he continued to battle through injuries going into the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Victor Wembanyama had 15 points on only 3-0f-13 shooting.

But New York would ultimately prevail. San Antonio put up a good fight; keeping things close but could not finish strong for the “W.” The Knicks would win 105-95.

New York’s hot streak in the postseason continues and is not cooling off. Many wondered if it would survive into the Finals and as Game One concludes, it still has not yet ended. The Knicks now have dominated the playoffs by winning 12 games in a row. Furthermore, this is the 7th consecutive road playoff win for the Knicks– tying for the second longest in a single postseason in NBA history.

An incredible feat. Will New York be able to continue this historic run in Game 2? Well, we all find out on Friday.
