Bears’ Board of Directors Voted to Advance the Stadium Development in Hammond-Indiana
Plenty of NFL teams have moved from place to place. Organizations such as the Raiders, the Rams and probably more famously, the Colts. However, now another franchise looks to skip town. On Friday it was confirmed that the Bears’ Board of Directors voted Thursday to advance the stadium development in Hammond, Indiana.
So then, looks like the other Indiana team will have some company. If the Bears ultimately move to Hammond, Indiana would become home to two NFL franchises, with the Bears joining the Indianapolis Colts in the state. Leaving Chicago with no team.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on the upcoming move and the official vote that led to this location decision. He mentions,
“The Bears’ Board of Directors voted Thursday to advance the stadium development in Hammond, Indiana, with the exact to be selected. This is this first time that the Bears’ board has voted on any stadium site.
As one source said, ‘There is more work to do but barring anything very strange, it’s a done deal.’
Once finalized, the move would bring the Bears across state lines into Indiana, ending decades of speculation surrounding potential stadium sites in Illinois.”

Early Friday afternoon a statement from Chairman George H. McCaskey and President & CEO Kevin Warren of the Chicago Bears was also released to the public. It stated,
“Yesterday, the Chicago Bears Board of Directors met and voted to advance our stadium development project in Hammond, Indiana, with the exact site to be selected. We believe a world-class stadium project in Hammond will transform the region, connecting Northwest Indiana to the South Side of Chicago through the Loop and across neighborhoods and suburbs stretching north of the city. It will bring Chicagoland together and deliver new opportunities to its residents and businesses.”
Indiana Governor Mike Braun has already taken a moment to welcome the Bears to his state. Via social media he mentioned, “Hoosiers, help me welcome the Chicago Bears to our great state! We look forward to building a partnership as strong as the ’85 Bears defense, creating opportunities and economic growth that will benefit our state and the Bears organization for decades to come. An NFL franchise in Northwest Indiana will be an economic boost to the entire region like we haven’t seen before. Thank you to Speaker Huston, the legislature, and Mayor McDermott for their partnership. I also want to thank the entire Chicago Bears organization for their partnership and commitment in making this move a reality. Welcome to Indiana!”
