Jacoby Brissett is on the Move Again as Baltimore Ravens Finalize a Trade

The life a backup quarterback is always volatile. But sometimes backups are fortunate enough to become starters. And he has transitioned between both roles throughout his career. He was recently the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals but was benched last week. Now Jacoby Brissett is on the move again as the Baltimore Ravens finalize a trade.

Brissett had been benched in Week 8 versus the Dallas Cowboys. The team had been trailing 17-3 when head coach Mike LaFleur benched Brissett in favor of Gardner Minshew. Himself a player who has been both starter and backup. But thanks to Brissett he’s now back to being a starter. Minshew went on to throw three touchdowns in the Dallas game and helped the team get the 33-30 overtime win. Following the Cowboys game, Brisset was demoted to QB3 and Minshew was named the starter for Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Therefore, with Brissett being benched he was now in a position to serve another team. And the Baltimore Ravens have come knocking. They have lost both their starting quarterback Lamar Jackson and backup quarterback Tyler Huntley for the season due to injuries. According to a post from NFL Insider Adam Schefter: “Trade: the Arizona Cardinals are finalizing a trade to send QB Jacoby Brissett to the Baltimore Ravens, per @RapSheet and me. Deal is expected to be completed until this weekend. The Ravens lost QB Lamar Jackson to a thumb injury, and his backup Tyler “Snoop” Huntley to turf toe.”

The Baltimore Ravens have lost four games in a row. It was imperative that they do something to shore up the quarterback position. Undrafted rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano isn’t the answer at least not for right now.

There are some people who feel that a trade for Brissett is a good thing. “I love that the Ravens traded for Jacoby Brissett,” CBS Sports analyst Ross Tucker said on the “Ross Tucker Podcast.” “They’re going to give those guys in that locker room a shot this year – a chance to win every game with a veteran quarterback.”

Brissett is slated to make his Ravens debut in Week 10 against the visiting Los Angeles Chargers on “Monday Night Football.” While Fagnano will make his first NFL start in tonight’s home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. That’s quite a bit of pressure for the young player to make a debut on primetime television while no other games will be happening. Nevertheless, even if Fagnano doesn’t win, the pressure will now be on Brissett to pull the Ravens out of a downward spiral. We hope he’s the man for the job.
