Baltimore Ravens Suffered the Loss of a Game and Their Quarterback Lamar Jackson
It has been a tough season for a lot of NFL teams, and some seem to be suffering more than others. And sometimes when it rains it pours. Which has sadly been the case for one team in particular. The Baltimore Ravens suffered the loss of a game and their quarterback Lamar Jackson. Worse still they also lost backup quarterbacks Tyler Huntley, and Joe Fagnano who were all injured in the Week 8 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Therefore, the Baltimore Ravens are without a healthy starting quarterback.
Lamar Jackson injured his thumb on the first play of the game. Jackson was making his highly anticipated return to the game after missing three games with a high ankle sprain. However, it appears his season could be over now. Head coach Jesse Minter was asked about the duration of the injury.
After the game, Head Coach Jesse Minter said Jackson will undergo surgery and be placed on injured reserve.
Asked whether it could be season-ending injured reserve, Minter said, “potentially.”
“It’s tough,” Minter said. “When it happened, I think at the time, you’re just hoping that maybe it’s something small, and then I think pretty quickly kind of realized what had happened.”
Jackson was later seen on the Ravens’ sideline in the third quarter with a cast on his right hand. Wide receiver Zay Flowers was held without a catch for the first time in his career. Flowers said: “I was upset, I want him to play, so I was upset.” As if losing your franchise quarterback isn’t enough, the injury bug then went after the backup quarterbacks. Tyler Huntley was knocked out of the game in the second quarter with a toe injury, and emergency No. 3 rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano got banged up but remained in the game.
Baltimore Ravens Suffered the Loss of a Game and Their Quarterback Lamar Jackson
The Ravens are currently sitting at 4-4 but have lost three straight games. They’ve been outscored 71-23 the past two weeks, and 68-3 in the second half the past three weeks. And next week they face the rolling Jacksonville Jaguars who just demolished the Indianapolis Colts 7-42. And the Ravens will play one of the NFL’s toughest schedules the rest of the way.
Obviously, the Ravens are in need of a starting quarterback. One player in consideration for the starting quarterback job is Tyson Bagent. However, Lamar Jackson is a generational talent and will be hard to replace. Perhaps Huntley, who had suffered a toe injury in the second quarter, will be able to return sooner rather than later. But whatever happens next, we send our sympathies to Lamar and hope he has a speedy and healthy recovery.
