Lakers Provide Injury Update on Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves For Upcoming Thunder Series

They have a commanding lead in their series with the Houston Rockets. And they have accomplished this feat without two key players. Therefore, the question is now will these purple and gold stars be available for their next opponent the Oklahoma City Thunder. Well, the Los Angeles franchise gave up some quick intel. On Tuesday, the Lakers provided an injury update on Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves for the current and upcoming OKC Thunder series.

Los Angeles is one win away from moving on in the postseason. Barring a major comeback from Houston, the Lakers could seal the deal in Game 5 on Wednesday.

Nonetheless, regarding Reaves possible return, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports, “Los Angeles Lakers star Austin Reaves is optimistic to return to action in Game 5 against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night after missing about four weeks with a Grade 2 oblique strain, sources tell ESPN. Reaves will be a game-time decision for the third consecutive contest.”

As for Luka, his progress thus far does not seem as positive. Not only will he not be available in this current Houston series; Doncic does not look close to a green light for the Thunder series as well. At least not when it begins. Via Sportscenter Charania explains,

“It is a slow-path on the recovery front for Luka. The expectation is if the Lakers are able to beat Houston and advance Luka Dončić will be out for the next series. There’s still no time table for him as of right now. He’s starting to do more court movement as JJ Redick said the other day but he is not at the point where he’s progressing in his own court work outs as far as one on ones and truly pushing it on a movement front.”

Lakers Provide Injury Update on Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves For Upcoming Thunder Series

Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves have not played since April 2. Ironically, both him and Reaves were both injured during a matchup against the Thunder. Prior to his injury, Doncic had scored at least 40 points in five of his previous seven games.

Reaves averaged 23.3 points, 5.5 assists and 4.7 rebounds, but played in just 51 games thanks to the oblique injury and a strained left calf that sidelined him for 19 straight games from Christmas to February. No doubt LA is missing Luka’s and Austin’s offensive firepower. But looks like Reaves is close to getting back in the battle.
