Shohei Ohtani and Yordan Alvarez Are Current Top Vote-Getters for All Star Game
The annual slam fest is fast approaching, and two players are currently leading the way. Every year we look forward to seeing the best and the biggest bats, the surest and most ridiculous catches. The two baseball conferences showcase their ultimate players in a winner takes all contest. This year leading the two conferences, Shohei Ohtani and Yordan Alvarez are the current top vote-getters for the MLB All Star game.
Ohtani playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers is lead the National League. Whereas Alvarez plays for the Houston Astros of the American League. Ohtani is a talented two-way player who can do damage on either side of the ball. Alvarez is keeping the Astros relevant at a time when they no longer have five or six recognizable names at any given time. Thus far Alvarez has tallied 1,015,768 votes, putting him approximately 38,000 votes over the Yankees’ Aaron Judge for the AL top spot. Unfortunately, Judge is expected to be sidelined until the second half with a stress fracture in one of his ribs.
On the other hand, Ohtani leads all players with 1,165,133 votes. It’s still early in the voting but if things stand as they are it will the first time Ohtani was MLB’s leading All-Star vote-getter. Ken Griffey Jr. did so five times (1994, 1996-99). Ohtani has an edge of more than 192,000 votes over Braves catcher Drake Baldwin, the NL’s second-leading vote-getter so far.
If they both remain the leading vote getter of their conference, during Phase 1, they will receive an automatic spot in their team’s starting lineup. During Phase 1, you can vote as many as five times per every 24-hour period exclusively at MLB.com, on all 30 MLB club sites and on the MLB app.

Kyle Schwarber is currently in the second spot for designated hitter. However, some feel that Ohtani should be the designated hitter. Despite Schwarber being tied with Alvarez for the MLB lead with 24 homers, compared to 14 for Ohtani. But Ohtani leads NL qualifiers in OBP (.427) and OPS (.975). On an interesting note, this would be Ohtani’s sixth straight fan-vote win, but the first time he was MLB’s leading All-Star vote-getter.
Phase 2 of the voting begins on June 29. You can go here to get a look at the current All-Star vote totals, position by position, for the AL and NL. Don’t forget that the 2026 MLB All-Star Game will be presented by Mastercard at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on July 14. Until that time comes remember to keep making your votes!
