Running Back Nick Chubb Calls It Quits After Eight Hard-Hitting NFL Seasons
Who doesn’t love a locomotive for a running back? Watching a guy plow over players like they’re not even there is, let’s face it, fun to watch. And that’s exactly the kind of player he was. Running over other guys and making big plays were his calling cards. But all good things must come to an end. Running back Nick Chubb called it quits after eight hard-hitting NFL seasons. He was the No. 35 overall pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft and went on to have a difference-making career.
Chubb gave his heart and soul to the Browns despite their lack of a winning culture. He brought a vividness to the team that made people want to watch him play. He was with the team until 2024 when he was allowed to leave in free agency. However, he played with the Houston Texans in 2025. However, he announced his retirement on Instagram last evening. Below is a portion of the post he made which was multiple pages:
“Today’s the day I’ve been avoiding for a while. Twelve-year-old me could never imagine this day, and 30-year-old me is wondering where all the time has gone. I’ve known for some time now, but I’m finally ready to share that I’m done playing football… I say this to all my brothers still on the field, still in the heat of it: There’s a life waiting for you after football, too. And health is the real wealth. I end my career in a great place.”
Chubb is clearly looking forward to life after football, as he should. He paid his dues to the game without complaint. Although he finished his career with the Houston Texans, it’s the Cleveland Browns who have come calling.

Managing partner JW Johnson sent a message to Chubb, saying: Hell of a career,” Johnson said. “We’re excited to get him back here and have him retire as a Brown as he rightfully should. Nick, if you’re watching and listening, we’re excited to get you back and get you back here as a Brown, buddy.”
Should he take Johnson up on the offer then he would be following in the footsteps of other former Browns such as Joe Haden, Christian Kirksey and Rashard Higgins. The fact that Chubb was able to recover and rehab after one of the most gruesome knee injuries is a testament to his never-give-up spirit. He retires as a four-time Pro Bowler with 7,349 rushing yards, 1,109 receiving yards and 59 touchdowns in 100 career games.
Should he choose to retire as a Brown he will no doubt be celebrated. Congratulations to Nick Chubb on his retirement, we hope he’ll be as happy off the field as he was on it!
