He’s a fan favorite and a staple during Major League Baseball’s All-Star events. However, this year he will not be able to participate like in years past. On Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced Shohei Ohtani will not participate in the 2026 All-Star Game. The dynamic star continues to experience and contend with irritation in his left knee. Shohei also decided to skip his scheduled starting pitcher appearance in Friday’s game against the Diamondbacks.

Of course, LA is thinking long-term and of the big picture. While Ohtani missing the All-Star game can be quite disappointing for fans hoping to see him face off against best in the game. The blue men are also attempting to make history by accomplishing the three-peat.

The Dodgers organization has certainly been the team to beat in this modern era. The Dodgers’ roster is stacked and it has already produced two back-to-back championships. Only two MLB franchises have successfully won three consecutive World Series titles. The New York Yankees (who did it a whopping three times; yes, 3-3Peats) and the Oakland Athletics. Now LA hopes to become the third.

Nevertheless, Friday afternoon Los Angeles delivered the news to their fans and all of baseball about Ohtani’s upcoming absence stating,

“Shohei Ohtani will not make his scheduled start on the mound this evening against the D-backs due to continued irritation in his left knee. He will serve as the designated hitter the rest of the weekend, but following the series against the D-backs he will have some interventions on his knee to put him in the best position for the second half of the season. Unfortunately, due to these events, he will not be able to travel to Philadelphia and participate in the 2026 All-Star Game.”

leadoff hitter blasted one into the left-center field stands during the bottom of the first inning. Therefore, despite skipping his scheduled start due to discomfort in his left knee, Ohtani effortlessly and immediately crushed a home run. A very good and solid sign for Shohei.

Furthermore, manager Dave Roberts says Ohtani will be good to go for the final stretch towards the postseason. Robert confirmed, “He will be ready in the second half.”
