Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield Agree to 3-year $155 Million Contract Extension
Tampa Bay’s swashbuckling leader is here to stay. While both sides kept aspects of their negotiations quite secretive all offseason; the parties were able to at long last come to the table and reach an agreement. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and star QB Baker Mayfield are in agreement on a 3-year $155 Million contract extension to lock him up right before the season. The deal comes in at $55M per year.
This contract extension is quite historic for the Tampa Bay organization. It is now the LARGEST contract in Buccaneers history. So then, Baker Mayfield and the Bucs organization continue to build a legacy together.
Nonetheless, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on the Baker deal early Tuesday afternoon. He reveals,
ESPN sources: two-time Pro-Bowl selection Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers reached agreement today on a three-year contract extension that will prevent the quarterback from becoming a free agent after this season, per me and Ian Rapaport. Mayfield had broken off talks as camp opened, but with the regular season kicking off this week, a deal has been revisited and now struck.
Baker Mayfield initially signed with the Buccaneers on a 1-year, $4M prove-it deal in 2023.
He has since signed a 3-year, $100M contract and now has landed another three-year contract extension.”

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Owner/Co-Chairman Joel Glazer released a statement regarding Mayfield’s extension. Glazer says,

This contract – the largest in the history of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – reflects our belief in Baker, and his leadership both on and off the field. His competitive spirit, resilience and commitment to winning embody everything we want in our players. Baker and his wife, Emily, have made a meaningful impact in the Tampa Bay community and we are thrilled their family will continue to call Tampa Bay home for years to come.”
Buccaneers training camp started with Vita Vea requesting a trade and Baker Mayfield publicly calling out the team after ending contract talks. The regular season will begin with both Mayfield and Vea extended and satisfied. The 2026 NFL regular season starts on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. As the New England Patriots take on the Seattle Seahawks.
