Kawhi Leonard Spied Training at Raptor Mini Camp Amid Trade Delay

After explosive fines, bannings, suspensions and drafting punishments; the player at the center of the investigation drama seems to be seemingly moving on with business as normal. NBA star Kawhi Leonard has been spied training at Raptor mini camp amid his trade delay. The workout mini camp is taking place in Miami. It is a non-team-official minicamp.

Despite the delay, Leonard and the Raptors expect the trade to be completed. Apparently, Leonard is doing individual work, but is not working alongside other players on the team.

This is in line with how Leonard and Toronto have navigated unusual circumstances all summer. He’s been training AROUND them. However, technically can’t train WITH them (at least not in an organized capacity) until his trade is completed, which is expected soon (as initially structured).

Kawhi Leonard was first traded to the Toronto Raptors on July 18, 2018, from the San Antonio Spurs. He was also recently reported to be traded back to the Toronto Raptors following an agreement reached on June 30, 2026, with the Los Angeles Clippers, which was put on hold pending an NBA investigation.

The NBA handed the LA Clippers the harshest penalty in league history for salary cap circumvention involving Kawhi Leonard. The franchise faces massive draft losses and executive suspensions, while Leonard escaped severe discipline, receiving only a $700,000 fine.

Toronto is waiting for Los Angeles to move forward with the agreed-upon trade. So then, if discipline has been doled out, what is holding up this trade between the Clips and Raptors? According to NBA insider, Jake Fischer,

Prime among reasons why Kawhi Leonard’s trade to Toronto has yet to be finalized: Sources tell The Stein Line and me the Clippers are still working through their new front office structure after NBA suspensions for Steve Ballmer, Lawrence Frank.”

Marc Stein himself added, “League sources tell Jake L. Fischer and me that Kawhi Leonard joined Raptors players in Miami for the aforementioned mini-camp but to this point is restricted to individual workouts because his verbally agreed trade from the Clippers back to Toronto has not yet been made official.”

Therefore, the Clippers are not trying to renegotiate the trade. They are simply working on their front office structure/situation following the suspensions to Steve Ballmer/Lawrence Frank.
