Jonathan Quick Announced Monday Will Be His Final NHL Game—End of Incredible Career

Three-time Stanley Cup champion, the 2012 Conn Smythe Trophy winner, 2x Jennings Trophy winner, 400+ career wins and 65 career shutouts. And oh yeah… the most wins by a US-born goaltender. Tonight we say goodbye to the one of the best to ever do it. Jonathan Quick has announced tonight will be his final NHL game, marking the end of an incredible career.

Yes, the all-time winningest American-born goaltender is officially calling it a career and hanging up the pads. On Monday night Jonathan played his final and 829th game. Quick says he is retiring at 40 years old after nearly two decades in the NHL, a stretch during which he was one of the best goaltenders of his generation.

In his final game in the NHL, Jonathan Quick made 14 saves in the New York Rangers’ 3-2 loss to the Florida Panthers on Monday night. During the morning skate, Jonathan confirmed his retirement stating,

“Obviously, the past few years, very lucky to be part of this organization and wear this jersey, but tonight will be my last game in the league. You know, I’m looking forward to it. Very fortunate. Wife flew down with the kids. So, they’ll be here in attendance tonight. My parents will be here. So, looking forward to this last one and try to get one more win here.”

Although, Quick’s long tenure on ice does not end with a final victory. It’s clear that all of the hockey world sees him as a legend worthy of respect. The New York Rangers President and General Manager, Chris Drury alluded to such sentiments in his official statement on Jonathan retiring. Drury says,

“In a career that spanned close to two decades in the National Hockey League, Jonathan Quick became not just the winningest American-born goaltender of all-time, but also one of the best goaltenders in hockey history.

A three-time Stanley Cup Champion, he earned the utmost respect of teammates, coaches, and staff members through his work ethic and dedication to his craft.

Jonathan is a special person and player, and the entire Rangers organization wishes him – along with his wife Jackie and three children, Madison, Carter, and Cash – all the best in retirement.”

The Los Angeles Kings also fittingly praised Jonathan Quick on his amazing career; as well as  future endeavors. The Kings wrote, “Congrats Jonathan on a historic career! You were as fierce of a competitor as this game has ever seen. We wish you, Jackie, Madison, Carter and Cash the best as you go forward.”

The Las Vegas Knights, who Quick also won a title with (2023); were also among the online delegation wishing Jonathan the best. The organization posted, “Congratulations to Jonathan Quick on his retirement!! What an incredible career and we are honored to be a part of it!”

As one can see, there was nothing but love and respect for Jonathan Quick after his final National Hockey League game. A legendary career spanning almost twenty years. Congratulations on everything you’ve accomplished, Quickie.
