LaMelo Ball and Kon Knueppel Join Curry and Thompson as Only Teammates to Make 270 Threes
If you’re getting mentioned in the same sentence as the Splash Brothers; you put up a LOT of threes. Curry and Thompson terrorized the league for a number of years with their hard to guard shots from deep. Well, now a new three-pointer threat duo is emerging on the court. The Charlotte Hornets LaMelo Ball and Kon Knueppel join Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson as the only teammates to each make 270 threes in a season.
To take the “crown” in this particular regard, Ball and Knueppel will need to chuck threes at a high rate for another two seasons. Since Curry and Thompson were able to have multiple seasons of making at least 270 three-pointers. They did it twice (2015-16 and 2022-23).
Nonetheless, Knueppel and Ball logged 273 and 272 3-pointers, respectively, totals that both exceeded the franchise’s previous single-season best of 260 set by Kemba Walker back in 2018-19. Rounding out the NBA’s top five this season were the Los Angeles Lakers’ Luka Dončić (254), Atlanta’s Nickeil Alexander-Walker (251) and Denver’s Jamal Murray (245), all of whom set new single-season franchise records, as well.
Kon Knueppel and LaMelo Ball-A Developing Legacy
Furthermore, Lamelo and Kon’s achievement also marks the first time a pair of Eastern Conference players have led the NBA in 3-pointers since Orlando’s Rashard Lewis (220) and Boston’s Ray Allen (199) went 1-2 in 2008-09. Moreover, Knueppel’s seasonal total tied Curry (2022-23) for 22nd most in NBA history, while Ball also tied Curry (2012-13) for 24th most. Ball, who recorded his best 3-point percentage (36.8%) since 2022-23 (37.6% in only 36 games), jumped from sixth to second place on the Hornets franchise’s all-time 3-point leaderboard this year (977), where he now trails only Walker (1,283).
Knueppel has also made plenty of history all on his own throughout the season and now again at present. Kon Knueppel is the first rookie to lead the NBA in three-pointers made in a season. Several weeks ago, Knueppel smashed the league’s rookie record for 3-pointers – previously held by Sacramento’s Keegan Murray – with his 207th triple of the campaign on Feb. 26 in Indiana. The former Duke Blue Devil then broke Kemba Walker’s franchise high-water mark of 260 on April 3, also at home against the Pacers.

Lastly, Kon Knueppel shot a sizzling 42.5% from 3-point range. Good for ninth best in the NBA and the highest by any 3-point leader since Curry sunk a totally absurd and league-record-setting 402 triples on 45.4% shooting during his unanimous MVP season in 2015-16.
So yes, Ball and Knueppel are Splash Brothers-like; but it will take a lot to hit 400+ threes like number 30. However, this duo has been fun to watch. Hopefully, we see more of these electric baskets from them in the postseason.
