Boston Red Sox Stumbled Behind Garrett Crochet’s Tough Performance Last Night

People thought the team had assembled a pretty good roster and were expecting big things this season. However, those dreams are turning to nightmares as the Boston baseball team took a tumble last night. The Boston Red Sox stumbled behind Garrett Crochet’s tough performance last night. His final stat line was 1 2/3 innings, nine hits, 11 runs, 10 earned runs, three walks, no strikeouts. Making it one of the worst nights of his 68 career starts. According to Pitchergami a line like that has never happened in MLB history. Now the Red Sox are sitting at 6-10 and looking for answers.

However, there don’t seem to be any easy answers to their dilemma. There had been hope after their rotation had surged through its most recent turn at 1.52 ERA. But it came to an end last night with Crochet stating:

“I mean, it’s tough to say,” said Crochet. “Command as a whole has been spotty. I’ve gotten away with it a little this early in the year, but tonight, they made me pay. It was weak contact, hard contact, walks, hit by pitch. A little bit of everything.”

Even the pitching coach Andrew Bailey was taken aback by the pitching performance. He said, “Yeah, it’s a little eye-opening, obviously. I think there’s a little frustration and curiosity,” Bailey said. “It happened really quickly, so we’ve just got to move past it.”

Nevertheless, the Minnesota Twins put up 11 runs in 1.2 innings. Even Red Sox reporter Ian Brown posted: “Crochet has had some clunkers, everyone does, but I’ve never seen him look as off as he has tonight in this year-plus with the Red Sox.”

Browne also added that Garrett Crochet has given up 10 runs and gotten three outs against the Twins. And his velocity is down across the board. There were also some additional tidbits that Browne added:

* the shortest start of his career (1 2/3 innings)

* the most runs he has allowed (previous was seven)

* the first time he didn’t strike out anybody in a start (*excluding a rain-shortened, four-pitch start in 2024)

Minnesota beat writer Will Ragatz dropped an interesting nugget about the Red Sox pitchers. He posted: “Tarik Skubal, Framber Valdez, and Garrett Crochet at Target Field in the last week: 11 innings pitched, 28 hits, 7 walks, 22 earned runs. That’s an 18.00 ERA for the three All-Star lefties.”

It’s no wonder that local on-air personality is worried about the Sox. Speaking of Crochet Hart said, “It’s like he was tipping or the Twins were cheating. 11 runs in 1.2!” We hope that the Red Sox pitching is in a slump that they will be able to pull themselves out of because the alternative is much worse!
