2x All-Star Tim Anderson Announced His Retirement From Baseball After 10 Seasons
It wasn’t as long of a run as it should’ve been, but at his best, he was a phenomenon. Nevertheless, 2x All-Star Tim Anderson announced his retirement from baseball after 10 seasons in the major leagues. Anderson played for the White Sox, Marlins, and Angels during his career.
The Chicago ball club confirmed the news regarding Anderson’s retirement early Monday afternoon. The organization posted, “Always a White Sox, TA7. Tim Anderson officially announced his retirement after 10 seasons (2016-2025) in the major leagues.”
Chicago already has plans and something in the works to commemorate Tim’s career and time in south side. The White Sox will honor the newly-retired Tim Anderson during a pregame ceremony on September 17. The team will wear their old “Southside” City Connects for the occasion.
Chicago to Wear Southside City Connects
In a press release the Chicago White Sox provided additional intel about the September 17th festivities for Tim Anderson. The franchise states,
“The Chicago White Sox today announced the “Return of the Southside,” presented by United Airlines. The celebration honors two-time All-Star and 2019 American League batting champion Tim Anderson during a special pregame ceremony on Thursday, September 17 before the 6:40 p.m. first pitch vs. Detroit. Earlier today, Anderson officially announced his retirement after 10 seasons (2016-2025) in the major leagues.
For one game only this season, the White Sox will wear the popular Nike City Connect “Southside” uniforms – the black and white, Gothic script and pinstripes look worn by Anderson and the 2021 AL Central Division-winning team.”
Anderson talked to the Chicago press via zoom and seemed extremely at peace with his decision to officially retire at 33. He told the media,
“I’m getting emotional now because we’re talking about something that I worked my whole life to get there,” Anderson said. “I never knew the route, I never knew which turn, I never had [any] guidance. I kept going.
As you know, that was my saying, just keep going. I know I came to the ballpark every day ready to compete, just ready to play for the logo that’s on the front of that jersey, and that’s what I did. Nobody knows what I sacrificed and what the body felt [like] every day, what I was leaving at home from my kids to my wife, through some of the decisions I made. I still kept going, and I had my moments where it bothered me.
But I couldn’t show it, and it got to a point where it started showing out loud, and I couldn’t control it,” Anderson added. “It was just one of those moments where the time is now where I can enjoy life. I’m kind of happier, waking up and being able to be around my kids and really living a real life. Because life is bigger than trying to make people happier with a bat and a ball, you know what I mean?”

Anderson had some really electric moments. None shall soon forget his dynamic home run into the cornfields of Dyersville, Iowa, during the inaugural MLB at Field of Dreams contest against the Yankees on Aug. 12, 2021.
Additionally, Tim in 2019 won the American League batting title and topped all of baseball with a .335 average. He hit .485 over 33 playoff at-bats, with five three-hit games in the seven he played. Furthermore, Tim was an AL All-Star in 2021-22, starting the game in ‘22. He also played for Team USA in the 2023.
It all went so fast. Where did the time go? But for Anderson he’s ready to move on. He concludes, “The game brought a lot of good moments but also brought a lot of pain. I still love the game, but it’s just brought too much pain to me. So going back to play is probably not for me right now.”
