Jason Kidd Bids Farewell After Dismissal From Dallas Mavericks
While his tenure as head coach may have come to an end; the memories shall remain. While fans will always remember him for defeating the Miami Heat to bring a championship to Dallas back in 2011. The sting of losing Luka continues to be thorn in the flesh for anyone associated with the franchise at that time. Since Doncic’s departure, the team has essentially cleaned house from top to bottom. However, this parting did not stop Jason Kidd from bidding Mavs fans farewell after his recent dismissal from the Dallas Mavericks.
Prior to Luka Doncic being traded on February 2, 2025, Jason Kidd had a .563 win percentage with the Mavericks. After the Doncic trade, Kidd had a .339 win percentage.
Nonetheless, the team did enjoy a moment “in the sun” under Kidd’s watch. This Mavericks champion as well as Hall of Famer helped lead the Dallas franchise back to the NBA Finals just two years ago, back in 2024.

Nevertheless, now Dallas just wants a fresh start all around. For that reason the Mavericks mutually parted ways with Jason Kidd. After the announcement, Kidd released the following statement:
“The last five years in Dallas have meant more to my family and me than I can fully put into words.
I want to sincerely thank the Mavericks organization, the players, coaches, staff, front office, ownership, and every employee behind the scenes who put their heart into this team every single day. It has been an honor to work alongside so many incredible people.
To the players, thank you for your trust, your commitment, and the battles we went through together. I am proud of what we built, the relationships formed, and the way you competed night in and night out.
To the fans, thank you for embracing me and supporting this team with so much passion. Your energy, loyalty, and love for the Mavericks make Dallas one of the truly special places in sports.
And to the city of Dallas, thank you for welcoming my family and me with open arms. The friendships and memories created here will stay with us forever.
While this chapter comes to an end, I leave with nothing but gratitude and respect for everyone who was part of this journey.”
Kidd, the Hall of Fame point guard who led the franchise to its only championship as a player in 2011, finished with a .500 regular-season coaching record (205-205) with the Mavs. Dallas Mavericks new president Masai Ujiri said it was a difficult decision, and his alone, to remove Jason Kidd as the team’s coach after five seasons. But simply felt like the organization needed a clean slate.
