Warriors Crowned the 2026 Summer League Champions as Yaxel Lendeborg Named MVP
They have impressed all month this summer. All through the California Classic as well as in Las Vegas. Now they have earned this summer’s offseason bragging rights. On Sunday, the Golden State Warriors were crowned the 2026 Summer League Champions as Yaxel Lendeborg is named MVP.
For the first time since 2013, the Summer Dubs made it all the way to the Summer League Final. The championship matchup between Memphis and Golden State was a thriller from start to finish. Neither team could seem to get much separation from the other; if at all. Things were so tight that the teams went into halftime TIED, 47-47.
Memphis led by Cameron Boozer came out of halftime red hot. Boozer hit a three right at the close of the third quarter. By this point of the game the 3rd overall pick had a game-high 17 PTS! Nevertheless, Memphis led by double digits (10 points) heading into the fourth quarter.
But Golden State would not be denied. The Warriors systematically cut the lead down then moved ahead despite the Grizzlies tough defense. Lendeborg helped put a PERIOD on things by putting his team square on his shoulders and hitting a much-needed basket from deep.
Late in the fourth quarter with the game still uncomfortably close; Yaxel Lendeborg put the Warriors ahead with a CLUTCH 3. Helping Golden State to lead by 4 with under 2 minutes to play in regulation. Golden State held the advantage and won the game, 94-90.
Rick Barry presented the 2026 NBA Summer League Championship trophy to the Golden State Warriors. Barry was the perfect choice to handle the presentation honors. The only player to lead the NCAA, the ABA and the NBA in single-season scoring. A former Warriors player. Furthermore, Rick became a NBA champion in 1975 and also won the MVP award that same year.

While Deivon Smith made a very good case for MVP. Being a major offensive threat during the first half. Smith put up nine straight points for the Warriors in the first quarter. However, in the end Yaxel’s ability to close out the game while being in foul trouble; impressed voters and got him the nod.

As one can see, Lendeborg was a man on a mission Sunday evening. Therefore, Yaxel, the 11th overall pick, wins the 2026 NBA Summer League Championship Game MVP. The Warriors definitely have a lot of potential and talent to work with right now; and available to develop for the future. Now, the team waits to see if they can add a legend to their roster; the league’s all-time leading scorer, LeBron James.
