2026 NBA Draft Top Ten Picks
It is a night where dreams come true and lives are changed forever. The Washington Wizards had the first pick of the night and they grabbed a guy off the board that many were excited about it. The Washington Wizards selected BYU wing AJ Dybantsa with the number one overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. But here is a brief recap of all the 2026 NBA Draft Top Ten Picks.
But first… Confused how teams were ordered for the draft this year? Well, the first four picks were determined by a lottery involving the 14 teams that missed the NBA playoffs. Moreover, the three teams with the worst regular-season records each had a 14% chance of getting the No. 1 pick. The odds decrease for the remaining teams (in proportion to their records). The top four 2026 teams drawn were the: Washington Wizards, Utah Jazz, Memphis Grizzlies and Chicago Bulls.
After the top four picks, the remaining 10 lottery teams were slotted in according to their records; (meaning that the worst team is guaranteed at least the fifth pick). The remaining 15 picks of the first round are ordered in reverse of the teams’ regular-season records.
The 30 picks in the second round are ordered entirely by regular-season records, with the worst team picking 31st and the best picking 60th.
Furthermore, this year the top NBA prospects widely expected to be available for Washington’s selection included: AJ Dybantsa (BYU Cougars), Darryn Peterson (Kansas Jayhawks) as well as Cameron Boozer (Duke Blue Devils). Ultimately, the Wizards chose Dybantsa.
2026 NBA Draft Top Ten Picks
AJ Dybantsa is BYU’s first No. 1 overall pick. The school’s highest-drafted player previously was Shawn Bradley at No. 2 in 1993. So you may have watched history without even knowing it.
Some other cool NBA history for the 2026 draft involves Los Angeles. The LA Clippers were able to make the fifth pick for the first time. It is their first top-five selection since 2009, when they drafted Blake Griffin No. 1 overall.
