New York Mets Delay Howie Rose’s Retirement Ceremony Until 2027 Due to Rain at Citi Field
40th season with the team. 22 years as radio voice of the New York Mets. But the weather decided to get in the way of some honorary plans. The New York Mets are delaying Howie Rose’s retirement ceremony until 2027 due to rain at Citi Field. Today’s game against the Phillies is still scheduled to be played. However, the Rose ceremony will not take place.
The Mets organization felt that Howie’s celebration of his career should be under only the best conditions possible. So then, a decision was made with the ceremony scheduling. Regarding the franchise’s sentiments on this matter, President of Business Operations Lew Sherr states,
“Howie Rose is more than a broadcaster to this organization. He is a part of the fabric of the New York Mets. Out of respect for everything he has meant to our fans, we have decided to postpone the ceremony and instead honor him during Opening Weekend 2027. While we are disappointed that inclement weather will prevent us from having our planned ceremony, we want to make sure that we properly celebrate Howie for all that he has done for the Mets.”
New York announced their decision regarding Rose Sunday morning via social media. The ball club’s posting says,
“WEATHER UPDATE:
Due to inclement weather, the club will postpone its planned special retirement ceremony honoring legendary broadcaster Howie Rose to Opening Weekend 2027.
Today’s contest against Philadelphia is currently scheduled to be played.”

New York is assuring fans that had planned to be in attendance for the ceremony will be properly handled. Despite the postponement, the first 15,000 fans who attend Sunday’s scheduled game will still receive a “Put it in the books” notebook and scorecard.
Moreover, in acknowledgment that anticipated programming has indeed shifted. Fans currently holding a paid ticket for Sunday’s contest will receive a digital ticket voucher for a ticket comparable in price and location to a 2027 April-May home game at Citi Field (exclusions apply*), subject to availability. Fans can redeem and access digital vouchers in their My Mets Tickets account (accessed by clicking the Vouchers tab) beginning when 2027 single game tickets go on sale to the public.
