Las Vegas Raiders Opened the 2026 Season at 2-0 For the First Time Since 2021

“Just Win Baby!” has been their mantra for decades since deceased founder and owner Al Davis uttered the phrase. However, the Silver and Black have had trouble living up to his ideals since they last appeared in the Super Bowl in 2003. The Super Bowl in which former center Barret Robbins disappeared from the hotel the night before the big game. Although, it’s a separate issue, it seemed like the team went downhill after that. But the good news is that the Las Vegas Raiders opened the 2026 season at 2-0 for the first time since 2001.They did it with 15-year veteran Kirk Cousins and little-known wide receiver Cody White. And of course, with other famous Raiders like Ashton Jeanty, Tre Tucker and Maxx Crosy.

We already mentioned that the Raiders are on their fifth coach in as many years. However, it looks as if they may have finally found the guy to lead them forward. They wooed Klint Kubiak away from the Super Bowl LX winning Seattle Seahawks almost immediately after the game. He was the offensive coordinator for the Seahawks, and he has brought his offensive skills to the Raiders. Now he is is the first head coach (excluding interims) in franchise history to win both of his first games since Bill Callahan in 2002.

In yesterday’s game they took down the Los Angeles Chargers, 26-14, marking their first win in Los Angeles since 2020. Quarterback Kirk Cousins threw three touchdowns to Tre Tucker and Cody White. That made Cousins the third NFL quarterback at least 38 years of age with three passing touchdowns in each of his team’s first two games of a season. Naturally, the other two are Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning and Raiders minority owner Tom Brady.

And then there was the outstanding performance by unknown wide receiver Cody White. Despite coming from the Seahawks, joined the Raiders on Aug. 31 as a practice squad signee. In last week’s opener, he made a touchdown-saving tackle of Jaylen Wright on a kick return late in the third quarter, with the Raiders having taken a 14-point lead. They went on to beat the Dolphins, 27-13. This week he worked his magic again. White made two catches, both of them in the endzone. He’s the first Raiders player since at least 1991 to have each of his first two catches for the team go for touchdowns.

White revealed his love of superheroes in the locker room yesterday, saying:

“Star Wars, Revenge of the Sith,” the newest Raiders receiver told me in the din of the Raiders’ victorious locker room late Sunday afternoon. “I’ll watch that the night before games. Or Spider-Man, the animated movie.”

We realize we’re only two games into the season, so we’re certainly not crowning anyone. But it’s good to see the Silver and Black going on the attack again. It makes for great football.
