Charlotte Hornets Got Nail-Biting Win Over Miami Heat in Play-In Victory

The game was contentious from start to finish. There were lead changes, dramatic three-pointers and even injuries in the first play-in game of the season. The two teams battled long and hard trying to secure a playoff spot in the win or go home battle. In the end the Charlotte Hornets got the nail-biting win over the Miami Heat in the play-in victory. Both teams played hard from start to finish with neither giving quarter to the other. If you didn’t know it already, the players made it obvious how critical the game was. They played so hard the game went into overtime.

It was a tough night for the Hornets’ star rookie Kon Knueppel. The Heat shut down the phenom last night after he had led the NBA with 273 three-pointers in his rookie season. He didn’t make a single one in his first postseason game. However, Coby White had a huge impact off the bench. White was in the game late instead of Knueppel. He finished with 19 points, hitting 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, including the shot that tied it at the end of the fourth quarter. That was one to see if you enjoy dramatics!

But there was drama early in the second quarter when the Heat’s Bam Adebayo had to leave the game with a back injury. Some are accusing the Hornets’ LaMelo Ball tripping Adebayo as he was falling. However, the play was reviewed, and no ejection was called and Ball was given a foul but not a flagrant foul. After the game the Heat’s head coach Erik Spoelstra said Ball should have been ejected. Adebayo did not return to the game after the injury.

The game stayed heated from beginning to end with both teams playing with maximum effort. With multiple lead changes happening it was impossible to say who had the upper hand. The Heat were led by Mitchell with 28 points and six assists, and Andrew Wiggins had 27 points and seven rebounds. But it was Charlotte point guard LaMelo Ball who made a driving layup down 1 with 5 seconds left for the deciding points. So the Charlotte Hornets defeated the Miami Heat, 127-126, in overtime on Tuesday to advance in the Play-In Tournament.

To say it was a hard-fought game is an understatement. If the Heat can continue to bring that determination and effort in this tournament then the sky will be the limit for them. Next up they will face the winner of the game between the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic who play on Wednesday. The game between the Hornets and the Wednesday winner will be played on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET, with the game broadcast on Prime.

Buckle up NBA fans these playoffs are shaping up to be a wild ride!
