Chicago Sky Star Rickea Jackson Suffered Torn ACL Will Miss Rest of the WNBA Season

After shuffling around their roster prior to the beginning of the season, the Chicago Sky had a good team. They traded for her in the offseason and looked poised to have a breakout season. However, things never go according to plan, and bad things have a tendency to happen. Chicago Sky star Rickea Jackson suffered a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the WNBA season.

She suffered the injury during Chicago’s May 17 matchup against Minnesota. The team confirmed that Jackson will undergo surgery to repair the injury. The team also put out a post on social media stating: “Rickea Jackson underwent an MRI that revealed a left torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), an injury she sustained in the May 17 game against Minnesota. Jackson will miss the remainder of the 2026 WNBA season and undergo surgery to repair the injury. We’re with you every step of the way, Rickea”

In that same post, general manager Jeff Pagliocca also added a personal statement indicating their devastation over the injury. Truer words were never spoken since Jackson appeared to look ready to take a major step in her career. She was playing some of the best ball of her career and the Sky were off to a 3-1 start.

Jackson has an excellent combination of size and athleticism along with the ability to make shots that keeps opponents on their heels. She was poised to become the centerpiece of the Chicago Sky. But her injury against the Minnesota Lynx has brought the development to a screeching halt. After the injury some of her teammates felt frustrated over the physical nature of the game and the lack of a whistle on the play.

Apparently one teammate in particular was upset about the officiating of the game. Natasha Cloud passionately said what she said:

“On top of the points of emphasis that were emphasized at the beginning of the season, their ultimate job is to control and protect the players in this game,” Cloud continued. “And I think that this group today failed to do so. … Truthfully, I think it’s bull****.

“You can be mad at me if you want to, but I’ll be damned if we keep getting players hurt in this league on any team because we refuse to control the game.”

Well, there’s certainly no misunderstanding on how she felt. But do you share her opinion? Is the WNBA officiating lacking in protecting the players? It’s still early in the season to make any lasting judgments but this could be an issue to keep an eye on going forward. In the meantime, we wish a speedy recovery to Rickea Jackson.
