It is not how you start, but how you finish. This ball club is turning things around and it is very difficult not to notice. The Phillies are above .500 for the first time since April 7 under interim manager Don Mattingly.

The Phillies were 9-19 before making Don Mattingly manager. They are now 15-4 under Mattingly’s skillful leadership and direction. And if they maintain their current win percentage under Mattingly over the remaining 115 games; wildly… Philadelphia would finish with 115 wins.

So then, the Phillies lethargic start is quickly fading into the background. It helps when you win six series. Since the Don Mattingly era commenced, Philadelphia has won series versus: the Giants, Marlins, Athletics, Rockies, Red Sox and Pirates.

As one can see, Philadelphia has yet to lose a series since their interim manager’s arrival onto the scene and is now second in the NL East. The Phillies are only the fifth team in baseball in the last 100 years to go from being 10 or more games under 500 to at least one game over 500 within the first 47 games of a season. The last team with this kind of turnaround this early in a season was Oakland 25 years ago.

Furthermore, John Clark of NBC Sports reported on the Phillies turnaround stating, “With the Phillies winning 15 of 19 under Don Mattingly, Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper have combined for the most home runs, 17, by teammates during this stretch. Kyle and Bryson Stott have combined for the most RBIs by teammates in baseball over these 19 games. The Phillies are averaging 5.1 runs per game under Don Mattingly.”

Very nice. It is great to see Philadelphia heading in the right direction. Better competition makes for a more exciting and entertaining league. Nonetheless, in other Phillies news, the organization is promoting Top Prospect Gage Wood from Low-A Clearwater to AA Reading. Wood is CB making solid progress and receiving great remarks from coaches.

But getting back to the ball club up top. The Phillies have the best record in baseball since Don Mattingly took over (15-4). The starters have one of the best ERAs in baseball, 2.87.

Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper have combined for the most home runs, 17, by teammates during this stretch. Kyle and Bryson Stott have combined for the most RBIs by teammates in baseball over these 19 games. Phillies are rolling, they will play the Cincinnati Reds next.
