Derrick Rose Discusses Legacy and Being a NBA 2K27 Cover Athlete
The last time Derrick Rose was on an NBA 2K cover, he had to share it. But this time things are different. Derrick Rose is the cover athlete for the Ultra Edition of NBA 2K27, marking his first solo cover and his second overall appearance in the franchise. Now Derrick Rose is discussing his legacy and being a NBA 2K27 cover athlete.
Rose shared NBA 2K13’s cover with Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin when they were all 23 years old. Some great company to be included among. But he had beyond earned his spot to be a shining star in the iconic video game.
In winning MVP in 2011, Rose — the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 Draft — was the youngest MVP winner in league history at 22. Rose averaged 17.4 points and 5.2 assists in 723 regular-season games and was a three-time All-Star, made the All-NBA First Team in 2010-11 and was the Kia Rookie of the Year in 2008-09.

Flash forward 14 years since his last NBA 2K cover and Rose is just as thrilled and honored as the first time. Regarding being a part of NBA 2K27 Derrick states,
I was blown away. I mean, I play the game from time to time. Like normally when the game first comes out, I play it a lot with my son. Then he kind of blows me away or he blows me out by the second week, so I stop playing, but I always been a fan. I always participated, and I love being a part of the paradigm,” said Rose on becoming the 2K cover athlete.
When I look back, I think that I gave my all. Like, I don’t have any regrets. I know that each day, each practice, each surgery, each rehab, I attack. So that’s one of the reasons why I felt like I could walk away from the game the way I did.
I came in a league where everybody took the job. They were a little bit old and immature. So, no matter who you played against, they were going to play their hardest to try to outplay you. So I respected that, and I gave respect, and I got respect back.
I love the presence, the moment, the state that I’m in right now. So, yeah, I don’t have any regrets.
It’s crazy looking back at being on the NBA 2K13 cover to now having my own edition for NBA 2K27. During my journey there have been coaches who believed in me, teammates who made me better, and fans who showed up louder than I ever expected. So, this is a chance to inspire young athletes to stay obsessed with the game. To show them that when you put in the countless hours of hard work, it rewards you.”
NBA 2K27 was released worldwide on September 4. And can be played on platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC (Steam), and Nintendo Switch 2 (Gen 9 platforms only).
