Rams DE Myles Garrett to Undergo Surgery—Being Placed on Injured Reserve
Los Angeles was thrilled to be adding the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year. However, before the franchise could even reach Week 2 of the season; the realization set in that they would be without him for numerous weeks. The Rams DE Myles Garrett is set to undergo knee surgery and is being placed on injured reserve.
Garrett won the 2025 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year award unanimously at the NFL Honors in February 2026. Myles broke the NFL single-season sack record with 23 sacks. He also led the league with 33 tackles for loss. But now injury shall derail him briefly.
This is a preexisting issue that has been brewing for a time. However, the positive is that the recovery time will not be lengthy and extensive. Rams star Myles Garrett will undergo knee surgery to fix what had limited him in training camp and will be missing in action for around a month. According to Tom Pelissero of Netflix Sports,
“Rams star Myles Garrett will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his ailing knee and is headed to injured reserve, sources tell Ringer and Netflix sports. Garrett has been dealing with lower-leg pain and wasn’t himself in Thursday’s opener. The hope is he’s back in four weeks. Myles Garrett is now set to miss games against the Giants, Broncos, Eagles and Bills. L.A. hosts the Cardinals in Week 6.”
Garrett now being sidelined for a week puts a few offseason moves into perspective. The two biggest trades of the offseason were Myles Garrett to the Rams and AJ Brown to the Patriots. Both players have been placed on IR after just one game played. Interestingly, recovery timeframes for both players seem to be lining up and closely resembling one another.

While Myles Garrett will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery, Patriots WR AJ Brown will not need surgery on his high ankle sprain. However, he will also be sidelined 4 to 6 weeks.
With Garrett now being definitely out for LA’s next matchup. It is still unclear if Aaron Donald will make his debut. The Rams had looked forward to pairing Donald and Myles together as a dynamic duo. However, now the organization and fans will have to wait to see them join forces during the second half of the season.
Regarding Aaron Donald, ESPN’s Adam Schefter says, “When the Rams play next Monday night vs. the Giants, they will be without Myles Garrett but they very well could have back Aaron Donald.”
