On Sunday evening NBA owner Steve Ballmer addressed the Clippers fan base. He took time to apologize for the scandal and show acceptance of the NBA’s ruling and punishments. Ballmer may still disagree with parts of the league’s findings. However, Steve Ballmer says the Clippers will comply with the NBA’s salary cap circumvention penalties and will not pursue legal action.
The official statement from Ballmer:
“This has been a very difficult time for everybody associated with the Clippers, and for that, I have sincere regrets. I want to apologize to our fans, employees, and my fellow NBA team owners for the distraction and distress this matter has caused, for which I accept responsibility as principal owner.
We are committing to put this chapter behind us. We have communicated to the NBA that we are complying with the penalties assessed by the league, have paid the fine, and are moving forward. While there are still disagreements concerning the findings in the report, this is not where I want to focus. Team owners should support, not distract.
The challenges ahead of us are significant, but so is our resolve. We will continue to build our team and invest in our community. The confidence of our fans is our priority. With our talented roster, outstanding staff and clear vision, I am certain that we will compete at the highest level and be an organization our fans can be proud of.”

This is a major reversal from Steve Ballmer and the Clippers recent sentiments. On September 2nd, the team released two statements that said they’d fight to demonstrate their innocence and vigorously challenge the findings. Additionally, the NBA investigation was deemed a gross injustice and a witch hunt.
Nevertheless, a change of heart and approach has set in and occurred after eleven days. Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer has decided that he will comply with the NBA’s recent ruling against the Clippers. He will not pursue legal action. Steve Ballmer is suspended for one-year, and has been fined $30 million for circumventing the league’s salary cap in the case of Kawhi Leonard.
League says they are not holding up the Kawhi trade. Clippers and Raptors are “free at any time” to co-submit for league approval.
