Boston Hunters Get First Win of Season as Queens Win Streak Comes to an End
It was a double header of “firsts.” One ball club finally gets the monkey off their backs; the other comes back down to earth. Let’s recap how the Boston Hunters got their first win of the season as the Los Angeles Queens win streak comes to an end.
On Saturday, baseball fans were treated to a full day at the ballpark. To kick off the day’s doubleheader, the Boston Hunters took on the New York Heights. The Heights arguably has one of the hottest batters in the league, Denae Benites. And Benites showed UP big time.
Denae came up to bat three times and got hits at all three plate appearances. And not just getting herself on base, but she knocked them all out the park! Yes, Denae Benites goes three for three, with a home run in every appearance for the New York Heights.
So then, for Boston it would not be an easy battle, but they were ready for the challenge. Although they went down early, with her first hit in the WPBL, Gabbie Haas makes it a tie game for the Boston Hunters. And the scoring just kept on coming.
New York may have come in hot, but Boston comes out on top, claiming their first WPBL win. Getting the “W” after putting up almost double digits. Hunters win, 9-6.

What about the Los Angeles Queens versus the San Francisco Firebells? The Queens were the last remaining undefeated ball club in the league. So definitely had a target on their back.
Nevertheless, San Francisco took control of the game early scoring two runs. However, in the third inning the Queens struck back. Jamie Mackay ties the game early with her second homer in as many games! It’s 2-2.
But in the very next inning, the Firebells have an answer of their very own! Andréanne Leblanc comes to the plate and puts her team back in front. Andréanne Leblanc hits a BEAUTIFUL double to bring in 2 of her teammates and put San Francisco on top in the bottom of the fourth.
In the end, San Francisco breaks Los Angeles’ 3-game winning streak. The game started tight, until the Firebells blew things open in the 4th to finish ahead by 7 runs. What a show!
