WNBA Announced 2026 WNBA Trade Deadline is Set For August 2
The season has progressed towards the halfway point. All-Star festivities are almost upon us. Therefore, all signs point towards teams needing to complete any roster construction changes via trade that they may have had in mind. In line with this, the WNBA announced that the 2026 WNBA trade deadline is officially set for 3pm/ET on August 2.
The Minnesota Lynx, Las Vegas Aces, New York Liberty, Golden State Valkyries and Dallas Wings all seem to be rolling right along. And look to be in good shape for the final stretch towards the postseason. These teams occupy the top five spots currently in the WNBA standings.
Nonetheless, eight teams will make the playoffs; so then there is time for teams to slide in or out of contention. If the season were to end right this moment the other three teams joining the race to hoisting a trophy would be: the Atlanta Dream, Indiana Fever and Washington Mystics.
The Women’s National Basketball Association welcomed two new expansion teams at the beginning of the season. The Toronto Tempo as well as the Portland Fire. Both franchises have played decently. With the Tempo’s standout star player, Marina Mabrey; being selected as an All-Star reserve and tying the WNBA record for most points in a single regular season game (53).
However, both the Fire and Tempo find themselves just outside the playoff picture. They are running just ahead of the back of the league pack. In spots ten (Portland) and eleven (Toronto).
Nonetheless, being only a couple spots away from the last playoff position. Puts these teams well in the hunt along with Los Angeles. The LA Sparks are currently residing in ninth place in the standings, ranking 5th in the Western Conference.

These on the bubble organizations would make great candidates for buyers at the trade deadline. Giving themselves a chance to beef up offensively or defensively to secure a playoff berth over the next few weeks.
However, there is something to keep well in mind. Trades are tough in the W because of cap space limitations. They do happen, but the need has to be very pressing for franchises to pull the trigger. With the deadline a little more than three weeks away, we will soon see if any teams decide to engage in some necessary trade talks.
