Toronto Tempo’s Marina Mabrey 53 Points Ties WNBA Record For Most Points in a Game
She had herself a night. Multiple rebounds, multiple assists. But it was her scoring that excited the crowd in a game against Los Angeles. Toronto Tempo’s Marina Mabrey puts up 53 points tying the WNBA record for most points in a game.
On Thursday evening Mabrey joined an exclusive club. Only two other players in the entire 30 year history of the Women’s National Basketball Association have scored 53 points in a single game. Las Vegas Aces and reigning MVP, A’ja Wilson and Liz Cambage.
On July 17, 2018, Dallas Wings center Liz Cambage set the WNBA single-game scoring record by dropping 53 points against the New York Liberty. The historic performance shattered the previous record set just five years prior. Cambage’s historic performance surpassed the previous WNBA single-game record of 51 points, set by Riquna Williams in 2013.
Fast forward half a decade and the 53 point bug would bite again. Wilson tied the WNBA single-game scoring record on August 22, 2023, dropping 53 points in a 112-100 victory over the Atlanta Dream. Although, she tied the record, Wilson still made some impressive history all on her own.
Wilson made 16 of 23 shots from the floor and was 20-of-21 from the foul line, the most makes and attempts from the line in her career. Moreover, at the time she was also the second WNBA player to make at least 20 free throws in a game; Cynthia Cooper of the 1998 Houston Comets held the record with 22.
And Wilson continues to be a high-powered, scoring machine. This season she achieved her fifth 45 point game. Thus, making her THE ONLY player in WNBA history with multiple 45-point games. The University of South Carolina graduate is also the only player in WNBA history to score 45 or more points on 80% shooting from the field. Truly elite.

In her matchup versus the Los Angeles Sparks, Mabrey was just as dominant as Wilson and Cambage. Marina helped the Tempo demolish LA in their blowout victory, winning 97-125. Mabrey scored 53 points with 6 rebounds and two assists.
The Toronto Tempo also set a new scoring record for points in a game (non-overtime) in the midst of defeating LA. Marina Mabrey during her unbelievable performance also made 9 triples which ties the league record for most three point makes. The 30th Anniversary season of WNBA sure has been exciting.
