Steelers Agree to Terms With Kicker Chris Boswell on Four-Year $28M Extension
The deal is finally done for one of the best kickers in football. And it is a contract that is of historic significance. The Steelers agree to terms with kicker Chris Boswell on a four-year $28M extension through 2030 season which ties him for highest paid kicker in NFL history.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on the contract extension stating,
“Steelers have agreed to terms with K Chris Boswell on a four-year, $28 million extension. The $7 million average per year ties him with Brandon Aubrey for highest paid kicker in NFL history, per CAA Football. Boswell is now locked in with the Steelers through the 2030 season.”
Nick Farabaugh added, “The Steelers get their first extension done this offseason and it’s Chris Boswell. Not a surprise with him scheduled to be a UFA after this season. Now, opens the runway for the Steelers to turn their full attention to the 2023 draft class. With Chris Boswell now done, odds are good that Joey Porter Jr. will be next up on the offseason contract extension to-do list. We could be waiting a bit on that one, however. Obviously, there’s a chance Darnell Washington gets done at some point. Personally, I kind of doubt Nick Herbig and Keeanu Benton will get extensions done this offseason but it’s not to say either or impossible just the same.”

Boswell is worth every penny and more; especially, when you look at the current kicking landscape in the National Football League. It is all about distance. In this modern age of the game, kickers are expected to make it through the goalposts from half the distance of the field. And fortunately for Pittsburgh, Chris Boswell makes it look easy.
Since 2021, no NFL kicker has made more from 50+ yards than Boswell’s 43. Additionally, since entering the league in 2015, only Matt Prater (58) has more successful field goals from 50+ than Boswell’s 52. Chris is simply money whether kicking from far away or a chip shot.
Chris Boswell was 10 of 11 on FGs between 40-49 yards in 2025. He was also 9 of 11 on FGs between 50-59 yards in 2025. His consistency has been a huge lift for the Steelers offense over the years. And now he is deservedly being paid as a top player.
Highest Average Paid NFL Kickers
1. Brandon Aubrey/Chris Boswell, $7M
2. Ka’imi Fairbairn, $6.5M
3. Harrison Butker, $6.4M
4. Jake Elliott, $5.6M
5. Cameron Dicker, $5.5.01M
