Dallas Cowboys and Kicker Brandon Aubrey Agreed to Record-Breaking Four-Year Extension

He has played both types of football both here and abroad. Despite being born in America he was drafted by Toronto FC of Major League Soccer in 2017. From there he moved on to Bethlehem Steel FC before switching to American football. His first stint was with the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL in 2022 and 2023. He got his first NFL break in 2023 when he was signed in Big D. And now the Dallas Cowboys and kicker Brandon Aubrey have agreed to a record-breaking four-year extension.

Prior to Aubrey signing with the Cowboys, just last month the Houston Texans had made Ka’imi Fairbairn the highest-paid kicker with a two-year $13 million extension. But the Cowboys said now wait just a darn minute! So, they agreed to terms on a four-year extension that will make Aubrey the highest paid kicker in NFL history. Aubrey’s extension is a four-year, $28 million deal, making him the first kicker in NFL history to earn $7 million per year, as reported on the Dallas Cowboys website. The deal also includes $20 million guaranteed.

While he’s been with the Cowboys, Aubrey has provided lots of jaw-dropping kicks for the highlight reels. He’s made the Pro Bowl in every one of his three seasons in Dallas. Aubrey has also hit 112 of his 127 field goal attempts for an 88.2% field goal make percentage. And he’s made 96.9% of his extra points (126 of 130). Plus he was an All-Pro selection in his debut season. Kicking long field goals has become second nature to him having made six career field goals of 60 yards or longer. That’s an NFL record of course, not to mention a serious weapon for the Cowboys.

However, it was a bit of a rough road getting to the extension. Initially, the Cowboys placed the second-round tender on Aubrey which was a $5.767 million placeholder. The tender gave the two parties time to work out a deal. At that time Aubrey had said, “Obviously, Dallas is my home. I’d like to keep it that way, so it would be nice to get a long-term deal going. Just need to sit down and have that conversation.”

With all his leg power Aubrey doesn’t hold the record for the longest field goal. That honor goes to Cam Little of the Jacksonville Jaguars who booted a 70-yard field goal. Expressing his happiness on signing his extension, he left this message on the Dallas Cowboys twitter page. He’s looking forward to winning a lot of games over the next five years, including the Super Bowl. We’ll see if he can help that dream come true. But for now congratulations to Brandon Aubrey on getting his big new deal!
