Saddiq Bey and Pelicans Have Agree on Three-Year $55.5 Million Contract Extension
Coming off a torn ACL, he had a career year for the Pelicans. And now the franchise is rewarding his efforts. Forward Saddiq Bey and the New Orleans Pelicans have agreed on a three-year, $55.5 million contract extension; as announced by his agents. Bey’s deal is fully guaranteed with no options, per a league source. New Orleans keeps another one of their pieces in place.
Saddiq Bey definitely deserves and earned this deal after playing well after returning from injury. Bey averaged 17.7 PTS and 5.6 rebounds last season in New Orleans.
The Pelicans now have the following players under contract for at least the next three years:
Trey Murphy III
Saddiq Bey
Herb Jones
Jeremiah Fears
Derik Queen
Bey is entering the final year of his contract, and he will make $6.4 million this season. So over the next four years in New Orleans, he will earn just under $62 million. The extension’s average annual salary of $18.5 million is a little above the mid-level exception right now, but it’s not out of line with how Bey produced last season. Also, this is a very tradable contract size if New Orleans ever needs to go that route, though the contract does have a trade kicker.

ESPN’s NBA insider Shams Charania confirmed the details of Saddiq Bey’s contract extension with the Pelicans. Charania revealed,
“New Orleans Pelicans forward Saddiq Bey has agreed on a three-year, $55.5 million contract extension with the franchise, plus a trade kicker, agents James Dunleavy and Jordan Gertler of Excel Sports Management tell ESPN. Bey missed the entire 2024-25 season after suffering a torn ACL in Atlanta and then had a resurgent comeback season last year in New Orleans, averaging a career high 17.7 points. He now locks in a fully guaranteed deal through 2029-30 with the Pelicans.”
So then, a fair deal for a player who had a career year last season and that the current Pelicans front office sees as culture setter. A player that has shown that he works hard and continues to improve despite adversity or setback. During his bounce back after recovering from injury; Bey started on the bench. However, by the eighth game of the season then-coach Willie Green wisely moved him into the starting lineup. Saddiq took on more of the offense but kept his efficiency at an all-time high for him (36.7% from 3-point range, .579 true shooting percentage).
