Pistons and Ausar Thompson Agree to 5-Year $155 Million Rookie-Scale Contract Extension
We are at that point in the offseason where both twins have just got PAID. First, Amen and now his brother, Ausar. On Friday it was confirmed that the Detroit Pistons and Ausar Thompson have agreed on a 5-year $155 million rookie-scale contract extension. The twins become the first pair of brothers in NBA history to each receive a $100 million deal.
There were rumors around the start of September that a new contract extension for Ausar Thompson would likely come to fruition before the start of the season. And now it has materialized. Plus, it is a really good deal for both sides.
Thompson is locked in as a core piece for Detroit alongside Cade Cunningham. He helps to keep the Pistons defense at full strength. Thompson was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive First Team last season, the first Pistons player since Ben Wallace in 2006. Furthermore, the All-Defensive forward led the NBA last season with 2.0 steals per game.

“Just in: Detroit Pistons All-Defensive forward Ausar Thompson has reached agreement on a five-year, $155 million rookie-scale contract extension, sources tell ESPN.
Thompson lands the fully guaranteed extension after finishing third place in the Defensive Player of the Year award race last season, leading the NBA in steals per game and posting the third-most combined steals and blocks at 215. He is one of three players with at least 300 steals and 150 blocks since entering the NBA as the No. 5 pick in the 2023 draft.

So then, Detroit’s defensive anchor is going absolutely nowhere. The Pistons successfully lock in Ausar Thompson for half a decade (secured through 2032). A top 5 defensive player in the league that earned and got the extension he deserves.
