The Giants are releasing the 33-year-old wide receiver following their 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans. OBJ had 0 catches for 0 yards on 1 target in three games in his return to the Giants. So then, he really didn’t get many opportunities on the field during this highly anticipated reunion.
Odell Beckham Jr. officially reunited with the New York Giants by signing a contract on June 1, 2026. This return marked his first time back with the franchise since he was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2019. Furthermore, the dynamic three-time Pro-Bowler was happy to return 12 years after he was drafted and became one of the franchise’s most electric players.
But the reunion would be short lived. New York and Odell Beckham Jr. have already decided to cut ties heading into Week 4. NFL insider Jordan Schultz confirmed the reports regarding the Giants franchise and OBJ; he states,
“Sources: The Giants are releasing WR Odell Beckham Jr.
OBJ has not been featured much despite earning a spot on the team, and the sides decided a mutual parting was best for everyone. This gives him an opportunity to catch on with a team in a better situation, where his talents can be better utilized.”

This decision on the part of New York comes just a few days after Odell Beckham Jr played just six snaps with 1 target and no catches. Beckham logged 20 snaps in three games in his return to the Giants after signing late in the spring. Now, he and the Giants move on.
Schultz adds, “My understanding is Odell Beckham Jr. will not be returning to the Giants’ practice squad either. It’s all love between OBJ and the Giants organization, but the hope is that he can find a better situation where he’ll have an opportunity to play. The fact that he earned a roster spot this summer should help him get another shot.”
