Miami Dolphin’s Running Back De’Von Achane Out for Season with Torn ACL

Many changes have been made in south Florida over the past several months. They have a new head coach, general manager and quarterback. But one constant they had was in the backfield. He was selected by Miami in the 3rd round (84th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft. And last season he surpassed 1,000 rushing ending with 1,350 for 2025. However, on Sunday he suffered an injury against the Kansas City Chiefs. Miami Dolphin’s running back De’Von Achane is now out for the season with a torn ACL.

The teams were less than five minutes into the game when the injury occurred. It was a non-contact injury that happened when Achane planted his left leg to cut right, and the leg gave out from underneath him. He did not return to the game. In his post-game press conference head coach Jeff Hafley stated, “To be very honest with you, it does not sound very optimistic at this moment, but I can’t give you any other details until I have them,” Hafley said postgame.

And as reported yesterday by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he will miss the remainder of the 2026 season after suffering a torn ACL in Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Every injury is unfortunate and are never welcomed when they arrive. In Achane’s case, last year was a good one for him. He had accumulated the most rushing yards in his career and made his first Pro Bowl last season. In addition, he had also signed a $64 million extension in May of this year.

The Dolphins are off to an 0-3 start so losing Achane is not going to help dig them out of the hole. Even the number 2 running back, Ollie Gordon, later left the game due to reported cramps. On the bright side, he did score a touchdown on a three-yard run in the first quarter. But much more will be expected of Gordon now that Achane is out for the season. However, Gordon is a third-year ball carrier who has totaled only three touches over the first two weeks of the season. The number went up to 20 with his increased workload against the Chiefs.

Nevertheless, that still marks him as an inexperienced player with a much heavier load to carry now. Without Achane on the team the offense will have a mighty struggle on its hands trying to move the ball. Quarterback Malik Willis is good at using his legs, but you don’t want your quarterback being your running back all the time either. Coach Hafley has his work cut out for him. In the meantime, we wish Achane a healthy recovery.
