This season is going to be GOOD. One of the best draft classes in recent years will begin to make their mark. Longtime veterans still in the hunt for more titles aim to add to their legacies. As well as other dynamic NBA players returning from injury. Case in point, Macao had a front-row seat to Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg sharing the floor for the first time.

Kyrie Irving looked fantastic physically on his return. And his return was straight up show business. His first bucket back (in 586 days) came on the VERY FIRST PLAY of the game. Showing off his iconic handles, speed and trickery at the basket. The exciting performance ends with a game-high 17 points for Kyrie as the Dallas Mavericks pick up the W in Game 2 of the NBA China Games 2026.

But the Mavs as a whole were efficient. On both sides of the ball, work got DONE. Kyrie Irving scores a team-high 17 points in 22 minutes of action, while his teammates were balling as well:

Zaccharie Risacher: 16 PTS
Cooper Flagg: 14 PTS, 7 AST, 2 STL
Naji Marshall: 14 PTS, 3 STL, 2 BLK

Irving was injured back in March 2025 in a game against the Kings. Nevertheless, Kyrie was asked by NBA senior writer, Damien Peters, about medical advances and recovery. Peters asked given the larger (and still growing); sample size we now have of players returning post these traumatic injuries and looking like themselves (Tatum, Lillard, Haliburton); if the days are gone for these types of injuries to be career death sentences? Kyrie gave an incredibly insightful response. Irving responds,

“We’ve been able to learn over the past few years what the body is capable of doing. We like to defy all the odds. The next generation is using us as an example. These injuries aren’t the same anymore, they’re not seen the same anymore. We have the opportunity to sit with doctors, go overseas, sit with other people that have gone through these injuries and come back even better.”

Well, Kyrie certainly looks like Kyrie again. Irving also discussed his relationship with basketball. About loving the game and working hard to return to give back to the next generation. Irving says, “When you love what you do every day, it doesn’t feel like a job… basketball has rewarded me beyond measure, it’s about legacy… the purpose is bigger now.” Welcome back legend.
