LeBron James Announced He is Signing With the Philadelphia 76ers

The LeBron sweepstakes has finally concluded, but it’s been a fun ride. For weeks varying team names had been thrown into the mix; including the possibility of two iconic NBA stars, on one team, joining forces to achieve ring number five. Nevertheless, after much deliberation the King has decided that his next land to be ruled, after spending years in Cleveland, Miami and LA; his new dominion is Philly. Friday morning, LeBron James announced that he is signing with the Philadelphia 76ers.

LeBron took to social media to reveal the signing. He mentions,

I thought I was done when the season ended. I wasn’t ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide, but I was pretty sure I played my last game. I was honest at that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and decide if I still love this game. I still truly love this game, and I have more to give.

The last few weeks have really been special. I’ve never been able to have no clue what to do and take real time to just think. I’ve had an incredible few months with all the people I love trying to figure it all out. This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point?

I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship.

I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.  

Thank you LA. Miami I’ll forever love and Northeast Ohio will always be home!

After the shocking announcement early Tuesday morning on June 30th that LeBron James would not return to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Warriors emerged towards the front of the line in pursuit of LeBron James in free agency. While the NBA grapevine insisted that James would not go to the Bay without Anthony Davis being in the picture. As things developed Golden State did not operate as though it had a mandate to also pursue an Anthony Davis trade. In fact, in time the organization made it clear they would NOT go after AD. Their focus was solely on luring James to come play with number 30.

However, GSW would fall short in reeling in LeBron. So would teams such as the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers. In the end, James’ choice was based on what’s best for his family and the opportunity to have a chance to compete for another championship.

LeBron James Signing With 76ers

LeBron James spent eight seasons with the Lakers, winning a championship with the organization in 2020. James’ tenure in Los Angeles is his longest singular run with any team. Nonetheless, his time in purple and gold has come to an end with the 2025-2026 season. LeBron James will be playing elsewhere in 2026-27, as his agent Rich Paul now emphatically confirms his client will be with Philadelphia.

Nevertheless, before making his final decision, LeBron James did have some fun along the way teasing basketball fans. During the “decision” saga there were reports of teams sending voice notes to Bron, his agent Rich Paul’s whiteboard breakdown, James social media posts and the live recording of his Mind The Game podcast at Fanatics FanFest. Rumors swirled that James might reveal all during his New York podcast show. But the 20-time All Star did not make a decision at that point in time.

However, instead of an announcement, Bron uses the live podcast to thank his former team. Regarding his longevity, his future and his tenure with the Lakers via the live FanFest podcast; LeBron mentions,

“I could average 10 points in the league for a long time. Like a long time. 65 or something like that. I don’t get fouls called for me anymore so I would say 3 layups and 4 FTs but they don’t call fouls for me. So if I get 2/3 layups a half that’s 12 points right there.

[Also] shout out to my former team. I spent eight great years with the Los Angeles Lakers … That was an unbelievable ride and I am looking forward to what comes next as I wind down my journey.

I heard Warriors, I heard Philly, Miami, this guy just told me to come to the Yankees.

[I’m] looking forward to what’s next as I wind down my basketball journey….it’s going to be pretty fun wherever I land.”

Well the King has finally landed. No more speculation and predictions. LeBron will be a member of the 76ers. ESPN’s Shams Charania solidifies the news stating,

“BREAKING: LeBron James is signing with the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year, $8 million deal with a player option, Klutch Sports Group and Klutch CEO and Game Over show host Rich Paul tells ESPN.”

This will be LeBron’s 24th NBA season and team No. 4 after stints with the Cavaliers (twice), Heat and Lakers. Speaking of the Cavaliers, Cleveland expressed interest in a second reunion with LeBron James with the appeal of the franchise’s greatest player finishing his career where it all started.

LeBron James won his lone NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.
They defeated the Golden State Warriors in a historic seven-game series. Famously overcoming a 3-1 series deficit to bring Cleveland its first major sports championship in 52 years.

However, in the end LeBron James could not pass up the opportunity to play with Jaylen Brown, VJ Edgecombe, Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid. Together next season, this group should make quite a bit a noise in the East.
