Jaylen Brown Releases Statement After Celtics Trade to Philadelphia 76ers

It was a trading shocker that came out on the heels of all-time leading scorer LeBron James announcing he would no longer play for the purple and gold. A trade occurring between two East rivals. Nonetheless, as the dust begins to settle, Jaylen Brown releases statement after his Celtics trade to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Philly and Boston kicked off July with a bonafide blockbuster felt throughout the realms of professional basketball. On Wednesday, the Celtics agreed to trade Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks.

Details on 76ers picks to the Celtics, per sources:

— 2028 first-round pick that could convert from a first to a swap that is more favorable to Boston

— 2031 unprotected Philadelphia first

— 2028 second round, most favorable of GSW/OKC/MIL

— 2030 second, most favorable of WAS/PORT/PHX

One day later, Jaylen Brown breaks his silence. He took a moment to reflect on relationships built, his undying love for Boston and his thoughts looking forward to the future. Brown stated,

“First and foremost, thank you to the Most High, even in the midst of adversity. I’m here with gratitude.

I’m still processing how this all went down. I’m excited and disappointed at the same time. I earned my respect from this city. I never asked for shortcuts or special treatment. I simply showed up every day, put my head down, and accepted every challenge.

The relationships I built here, the battles we fought together, the championship we brought to this city, and the connection I shared with the fans, I’ll carry on with me.

Saying goodbye isn’t easy when you’ve invested your heart into something.

I’m big on respect and actions speak louder than words. To the people of Boston, thank you. To the community I built here I love you, and to the shiftaz we are locked in for life⚡️

As one chapter closes, another begins.

I’m excited for what’s ahead and grateful for the opportunity to join Philadelphia. Every city has its own identity, its own passion, and its own expectation. I respect that, and I’m looking forward to earning that respect the only way I know how.. through the work.

Philly – throw the ball up let’s get it!”

Jaylen Brown Releases Statement After Celtics Trade to Philadelphia 76ers

This trade has puzzled several fans of the game. So far, the only reasons offered up has been that Boston felt Derrick White had the better season than Brown. And that the Celtics felt that Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum were no longer a championship-caliber duo.

However, soon a real answer may come to the fore. According to Marc Stein, “The Jaylen Brown-to-Philadelphia trade can’t be made official until the leaguewide moratorium is lifted Monday … which means next week is the soonest we’ll hear directly from Brad Stevens about Boston’s rationale for making this particular trade, why now, return package, etc.”
