HUGE. One of the biggest football superstars in the world is leaving the iconic swoosh after two decades (since he was 8-years-old). Kylian Mbappé leaves Nike to sign with Swiss brand On Running, becoming the face of their debut football boot.
Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe has quit his long-term relationship with Nike to become the face of Swiss company On’s first expansion into football boots. On has also hired former France and Arsenal star Thierry Henry as the firm’s Director of Football. Henry has been secretly working in the role since 2025 and played a role in convincing Mbappe, 27, to join upon the expiration of his contract with Nike this summer.
However, Kylian is not just the face — he’s a shareholder, working directly with their product team. While financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, The Athletic has revealed that Mbappe has been given equity in the Swiss company. The Athletic added,
In a statement on Friday, On said that Mbappe “will be at the heart of On’s football journey, uniting one of football’s defining players with one of sportswear’s most innovative brands. He will work directly with On’s product teams, integrating his elite perspective into the development and testing of future football footwear and apparel. He will also become a global ambassador for On, extending the partnership beyond football into movement, performance and contemporary design.”

On founder David Allemann reveals that their boots will hit the retail market in 2027 and will be “premium” products. The company is also looking to make a splash in the women’s market ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup next summer. But Mbappe is expected to be seen on the field in his new boots over the coming weeks.
However, why the change? Why say goodbye to Nike after such a long partnership? Regarding why he chose On, Kylian says, “From the beginning, what drew me to On was the opportunity to build something entirely new together that will help shape tomorrow’s game. I want to bring my experience and perspective into what we create. Push what’s possible through innovation, and always stay true to the joy of football. We have a shared dream, and this is only the beginning.”
