Steph Curry Talked to CNBC About Free Agency and Leaving Under Armour
Golden State’s superstar had a lot to say on the final day of the Underrated Golf Curry Cup Championship which took place at the Bethpage Black Course in New York. Steph Curry talked to CNBC about free agency and leaving Under Armour.
While basketball fans may have daydreams about potentially seeing Steph suit up for the Spurs, Heat, Celtics or Wolves. Number 30 has other ideas. Like you know, perhaps staying put. When asked if the idea of going through the free agency process, like LeBron, is appealing to him, Steph straight up said,
“Not at all. I’ve always stated that I wanna be a lifer with Golden State… My mission is to stay in Golden State and be competitive, the contract stuff will take care of itself.”

Besides on court business, Curry also got into his off court sportswear ventures. In his in-depth interview he also explained why he chose to depart from Under Armour after over a decade long partnership. Steph explains,
“I think it was a great run. Under Armour had a great experience over the 12, 13 years I was there, developed Curry Brand underneath… for me is looking at the longevity and legacy of what I think is possible not just here in the US but globally, across basketball, golf, lifestyle and training and Li-Ning has been unbelievable partner. It’s a long term scope of what we’re trying to do. I tried literally everything and there was a reason that Li-Ning stood tall at the end cause the product kind of reigned supreme.
It was mutual… sometimes good things do come to an end. Making sure that everything the way that the business is set up is in benefit of both sides. I don’t have any regrets about anything that happened. Everything does happen for a reason. I stand by that and just the idea that I was able to take Curry Brand and our mission to change the game not just on the court but off and all the ways that I know I can authentically do it Li-Ning’s been a great partner too.”
Curry announced in June he had struck a deal with the Chinese shoe company. He signed a 10-year, $400 million contract with Li-Ning, according to ESPN. Stephen Curry says his Li-Ning signature shoe will debut early next year.
