Golden State Warriors and Brandin Podziemski Reach Five-Year $110M Extension
After locking in their superstar, Stephen Curry, Golden State decided they were not yet done. The Golden State Warriors and Brandin Podziemski reach a five-year $110M extension. The fully guaranteed contract locks in their 2023 first-rounder through 2032 and starts at a figure that preserves up to $55-60M in cap space next summer.
Everyone knew a deal was coming. GM Mike Dunleavy had literally discussed in a presser about a Podz extension this offseason. He said, “That’s important to us. We really value Brandin. He’s a player that for all the things he does well, most importantly, impacts winning. When he’s on the court, we’re a better team. So, any time you get a guy like that, you want to be able to keep him around.” Well, now Podz is definitely staying in the Bay.
ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news regarding Brandin on Saturday morning. Charania reported,
“Just in: Golden State Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski has agreed to a five-year, $110 million fully guaranteed rookie-scale contract extension, agent Bill Duffy of WME Basketball tells ESPN. The deal includes a mutual option in the fifth year (2031-32) and a trade kicker.
The Warriors and Podziemski valued reaching a long-term deal that secured him as a foundational piece and provided flexibility for the team’s salary space next summer. The 23-year-old combo guard has improved scoring in each season, averaging a career high 13.8 points last year as one of 18 players to play all 82 games, while ranking top-3 in charges drawn his entire career.”

Dalton Johnson who covers the Golden State Warriors for NBC Sports Bay Area; asked head coach Steve Kerr why Podz is a good fit next to Steph Curry. Kerr replied,
“The way I always evaluate players is the dribble, pass, shoot process and he does all those things. Puts it on the floor. He’s a good 3-point shooter. He’s a good passer, and he process the game really well.
Anybody who does those things is going to be a good asset for you, regardless of the lineup. But when you have those types of qualities next to Steph, it unlocks Steph’s ability that much more.”
Sports journalist Nick Friedell added, “Kerr is very confident that Podz is still getting better. He says it’s a “good relief” that the deal is done before the season. Says Podz can just focus on basketball. The Warriors believe he is a big part of their future. ‘“He’s there for you every night.’”
