Angel Reese is Named the 2026 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year
Looks like Angel Reese is going to have to build a trophy room in her Barbie Dream house. Reese balled out this season and now she is being recognized for her impressive performance. Angel Reese has been named the 2026 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year.
Angel’s team made the announcement on Thursday via social media. The organization posted a video showcasing a montage of Reese’s defensive highlights. With the video the Atlanta Dream stated, “While they were talking, she was working. Now, she sits at the top as your 2026 WNBA DPOY. And this is only the beginning.”
Yes, Angel is only in her third season in the Women’s National Basketball Association. But she has already accomplished so much. She is the first player in WNBA history to record 20 or more rebounds in consecutive games, doing so in three straight games in 2024. First rookie to record a double-double in WNBA All-Star Game history (12 points and 11 rebounds). A three-time All-Star. Plus, the fastest Player in WNBA history to reach 1000 career rebounds (79 games).
And the above is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Angel’s WNBA achievements. We could go on and on, but the future is very bright for Atlanta’s Barbie. Reese continues to grow her game and develop as a player. Which has led to her winning DPOY.
Angel Reese is the 2026 Kia Defensive Player of the Year after a standout season with the Atlanta Dream, averaging 16.4 PPG, 12.1 RPG, 2.8 APG, 1.8 SPG. Her mother was given the pleasure of presenting her daughter with her accolade. Angel Reese’s mom surprised her with the 2026 Kia Defensive Player of the Year Award along with a large bouquet flowers.

It makes me proud to see you carry that into the next level and continue to grow. You’ve earned this recognition! Forever LSU! Now go win you another championship!”
Reese and the Atlanta Dream defeated the Washington Mystics on Wednesday, 93-75. The Mystics were officially eliminated from the playoffs and the Dream will move on to the semifinals. Atlanta will next face the New York Liberty.
