Alexander Zherev and Elena Rybakina Punch Their Ticket to 2026 US Open Final
It has been a wild and thrilling tournament. We have seen the Williams sisters on court in doubles, a Carlos Alcaraz upset and the drought of American men in the Finals come to an end. Now excitement continues to build as we get closer to seeing who will become the ultimate victor. Until the crowning moment, we know that Alexander Zherev and Elena Rybakina have punched their ticket to the 2026 US Open Final.
Let us begin with the ladies. We will have the world number one face off against the world ranked number two. Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina will face off Saturday in the championship match. New World No. 1 Elena Rybakina defeated Coco Gauff on Thursday and is now heading to her first US Open Final. Rybakina is the first woman in the Open Era to reach the US Open Finals after coming from a set down in both the quarterfinals and semis.
Additionally, Elena Rybakina has become the fourth player this decade to record a Top 10 win at all four Grand Slams, joining Madison Keys, Coco Gauff, and Karolína Muchová. She also leads the WTA this season in Top 10 wins at both Grand Slams (4) and on Tour (9). Saturday’s matchup with Sabalenka shall be one for the ages.

Heading now to the men’s side of the tourney. This has certainly shaped up to be the summer of Zherev. On Friday, Alexander Zverev defeated Karen Khachanov 6-3, 7-6(6), 7-6(6) to reach a 2nd US Open final (2020, 2026). He’s also into the 6th Grand Slam final of his career. Alexander now reaches his THIRD consecutive Grand Slam final. Zverev is trying to become the fourth man in the Open Era to win his first two Major titles in the same year.
Alexander Zverev is currently tied with Jannik Sinner with the most ATP rankings points earned in 2026 with 7950. If he wins the US Open, he will be #1 in the race to Turin rankings and finish the year with the most Grand Slams.
Unlike the women’s, the men’s US Open championship round is not completely set just yet. But will be very soon. Alexander Zverev will face either Frances Tiafoe or Ben Shelton in the US Open Final.
