Yankees Reinstate Aaron Judge From 60-Day Injured List
START SPREADING THE NEWS. After missing a little more than half the season; New York’s big man is finally returning to action. The Yankees have reinstated Aaron Judge from the 60-day injured list. The Yankees have taken Aaron Judge off the injured list, clearing his way to rejoin the team for the first time since before early June. Judge will be playing in his first game since May 31st.
On Monday, New York announced a couple of roster decisions. The Yankees made the following roster moves:
• Reinstated OF Aaron Judge (#99) from the 60-day injured list.
• Designated RHP Chase Hampton for assignment.
According to Yankees beat writer, Gary Philips, yesterday, New York’s manager, Aaron Boone; didn’t rule out the possibility of Aaron Judge returning on Tuesday. Boone also said he’d be open to a non-traditional build-up plan at the MLB level (playing a just handful of innings or getting off days initially). Judge, meanwhile, gets his wish to skip a rehab assignment after one live BP session.
With the New York Yankees losing on Sunday afternoon to the San Diego Padres. Judge ending his three-month IL stint could not come at a better moment. The Tampa Bay Rays continue to maintain a 4-game lead in AL East with 19 games remaining.
Since June 1 the Yankees offense has struggled with Aaron Judge missing in the rotation big time:
– 4.1 runs per game ranks 26th in MLB
– .227 BA ranks 29th
– .681 OPS ranks 27th
– 26% strikeout rate is worst in MLB

Nonetheless, Aaron Judge is set to return tomorrow after missing 80-plus games. When he went on the IL, he was hitting .248/.375/.533 with a .907 OPS and 17 home runs in 261 PAs. The regular season ends in 20 days. The Yankees have 19 games remaining to make up ground if they wish to catch the Rays in the American League East division.
New York aims to enjoy an end-of-season success turn around. They are hoping to not just catch the Rays, but snatch the top division spot from them. They will have to play perfectly and the Rays will have to falter. However, Tampa Bay is on pace for a 90-win season so this will be no easy task for NY.
