Yankees Anthony Volpe Hits Grand Slam After Being Recalled From Triple-A

New York is in its final push towards the postseason. Currently, sitting in second place in the AL East behind the Tampa Bay Rays. Nonetheless, the team has been reenergized with a couple of returnees. Case in point, the Yankees Anthony Volpe hits a grand slam on Thursday after being recalled from Triple-A. His first grand slam since Game 4 of the 2024 World Series.

So far, four teams have been eliminated from playoffs contention in the month of September. The Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels, San Francisco Giants and Athletics. The Yankees are not in any in trouble of not making the playoffs. However, if they would like to avoid the wild card situation, they would need to improve their standing.

New York is currently three games behind the Rays. Furthermore, Tampa Bay also currently owns the tiebreaker advantage over the New York Yankees, leading the season series 6-3 with a crucial four-series set remaining later in September. With so few games remaining it’s not impossible, but still quite a hill to climb for NY.

But with the return of Aaron Judge from the IL and now a “refreshed” Volpe, the men in stripes might shock the world. In fact, New York is quite on a roll right now. The Yankees swept the series against the Colorado Rockies and have won 9 of their last 13 games.

In Thursday’s game Anthony blasted a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Yankees were already ahead by four runs. But Volpe’s slam helped the Yankees win with a final score of 3-10.

Anthony Volpe said he was in a “bubble” at Triple-A. Not stuck, but focused on getting better. Now he’s back with the Yankees as a second baseman. After triumphantly hitting a grand slam in his return to the majors; Volpe said the last 24 hours have been an “unexpected whirlwind.” He said multiple times that he didn’t think he’d be back with the Yankees.

According to Yankees beat writer, Gary Philips, Anthony humbly mentioned, “I thought I was never going to be back up here, so I’m just trying to make the most of it.” Well, it looks as though the environment in Triple-A helped Anthony Volpe come back to MLB with the right mindset. Hopefully Volpe can keep up the good work and be exactly what the Yankees need.
